V. Announcements /Presentations /Correspondence
Chair Waldman explained he was in touch with Harvey Oyer, Jr., who advised monies
from the Harvey Oyer, Jr. fund had been disbursed. Chair Waldman received an email
from him inquiring where to make periodic small contributions. Chair Waldman provided
the information and hoped a donation would be forthcoming.
VI. Public Audience
None.
VII. New Business
Chair Waldman announced the Theater Academy at Boynton Beach Community High
School was presenting the play Candide. All were invited to attend He also announced
the Board had made a $750 donation to help the school's Thespian Troupe perform in
Tampa at the Statewide Thespian Competition. Chair Waldman was informed the
Troupe received a matching grant and in addition to other funds raised, they now had
the funds to compete.
VIII. Old Business
A. Recreation & Open Space Element of the City's Comp. Plan — Policy 5.1 1.
Wally Majors, Recreation and Parks Director, explained at the last meeting he
requested feedback on the City's park facilities. This was not a comprehensive
analysis; rather, it was their comments about the adequacy of the facilities, based on
their observations and experiences. Feedback was also welcome throughout the year,
and if anything needed to be addressed, staff should be contacted.
Currently, staff was conducting an analysis of the facilities as it pertained to the
Americans with Disabilities Act. Mr. Majors noted some new items were added, such as
an additional pool lift due to the size of the pool and because there had to be equipment
that could be used independently by the person who needed it. The Barrier Free Park
was finished, but the family restroom used by individuals with disabilities was lacking a
power- assisted unit. Staff ordered the unit which would be installed in two to four
weeks.
The beach improvements were finished. Mr. Majors noted the buildings at Oceanfront
Park had needed some attention. The boardwalk was finished, and with the additional
work to the buildings, it was a great facility with quality amenities. Park facilities were
still very popular and vibrant as were the eight recreation centers, including the building
at Harvey Oyer, Jr. Park.

B. Youth Volunteer Bank /Bob Borovy Award
There were over 100 members involved in the Youth Volunteer Bank, which was an
increase from prior years. The deadline for the Borovy Award was April 2, 2012. The
bulk of the applications are usually received prior to the deadline So far, two
applications had been received, and the deadline would not be extended.
C. Tennis Carnival — April 28, 10 am @ Hunter's Run
Vice Chair Morera explained she was unsure if she would be able to attend. If so, she
would shop for snacks for the event ahead of time. She explained the event runs itself.
It was a great event that was free to youth. The event was advertised in Funfare
Magazine and fills up. Registration was required and there was usually a waiting list.
Hunter's Run, which hosts the event, provides coolers.
D. Shred -A -Thon
Chair Waldman had spoken with Ms. Wilkinson who was going to contact the shredding
company, but he had not heard back from her. He recalled four communities by Pipers
Glen wanted to shred their documents and may contribute to cover some of the cost.
The goal was to have a shredding event in mid - March.

X. Adjournment
Chair Waldman received an email from Ms. Heavilin of the Sister Cities organization
indicating they were expecting about 50 essays for the Young Authors competition. Ms.
Roberts was working with Ms. Adams at the high school, and would follow up on it. It
was a great opportunity for anyone to participate.
Additionally, a charitable giving website, Microgiving.com was reviewed. It was an
opportunity for the public to donate to various causes. Vice Chair Morera would review
the information to see if it could provide a way to help fund the Board's activities
Mr. Majors also explained one of the reasons why they created the Greater Boynton
Beach Foundation was to use their non - profit status to solicit for grants and other funds.
If this website was not appropriate for the Board, it could be of assistance to the high
school or for someone's behalf. It appeared the website was used for individuals
experiencing hardship. It was noted the Board would have to obtain permission from
the City Manager and Mr. Majors agreed to check with her on the item.
