A. February 23, 2012 Fiber Art Artist Reception
Debby Coles - Dobay, Public Art Administrator, explained about 30 individuals attended
the reception. She noted the Reference Librarian, Patricia Mooar, learns about the
artists and the exhibits, and acts as a docent, providing informative tours to individuals
interested in the exhibits In this instance, the attendees learned about fiber art and
how it was made. Fiber Art was located throughout the City to promote the exhibit.
Newspaper articles provided positive publicity. The quilters from the Library, known as
Quilters Innovative Designers, also exhibited at the Library which fit in well with the
Fiber Art theme. She noted the exhibit would end in May.
Ms. Wolf arrived 6:40 p.m.
B. February 25, 2012 Kinetic Art Fundraiser
About 40 individuals attended this event which was to raise money and generate
awareness of the Kinetic Art program. The Schoolhouse Children's Museum benefited
from it as well. Wine was provided by the Wine Cellar in Boynton Beach, five chefs
prepared hor d'oeuvres, and the Community Caring Center poured the beverages. The
fundraiser set the stage for the Kinetic Art Symposium as the VIP Night for the event
would be held at the Museum. Ms. Coles -Dobay noted a portion of the proceeds was
shared with the Museum.
Ms. Lorenz spoke about the Lake Worth Street Painting Fair and recalled the last time
she attended, there was one block of sidewalk art. She commented since then, the
event grew to eight blocks and was packed. Events, over time, can grow.
C. February 26, 2012 KeroWACKED Arts District event
Some of the members had attended this event, and although parking was difficult, it had
a great turnout. There was mural painting, door painting, fiber art on doors and walls,
various musicians playing guitars, singing, and lots of activities as well as food trucks.
There were impressive items and a variety of individuals attended. The Community
Redevelopment Agency, one of the event sponsors, provided bus transportation from
the downtown market to the event to market both events. It was noted the event paid
homage to Jack Kerouac of the Beat Generation.
D. March 6, AIPP presentation at City Commission meeting
Ms. Coles -Dobay requested the members attend the meeting for the Art in Public
Places (AIPP) presentation. A Branding and Economic Development presentation

Center has art programs, it would provide an opportunity for the youth to meet and
make a connection with the artist It was hoped the Mayor and Commissioners would
attend.
VI. International Kinetic Art Symposium and Exhibit Planning
A. March 2, 2012, Stakeholder Workshop
The Stakeholder Workshop would be held at the Library Program Room at 10 a.m. Ms
Coles -Dobay explained the Library was closed on Friday and the only door that would
be open was on the north entrance by the Sailfish Cafe. That door would be closed at
10 a.m. and anyone else who arrived would have to enter through the Fire Exit doors on
the side of the Library. The members were requested to arrive at 9 a.m.
B. Review Visual Presentation
Ms. Coles -Dobay explained she made changes to the presentation based on the
comments received from the last meeting and the members would view the final product
at this meeting At the workshop, name tags would be available.
Ms. Coles -Dobay reviewed the sponsor list and pointed out the Community
Redevelopment Agency sponsored the event was one of the sponsors of the event The
AIPP Program contribution was 12 sites along the Avenue of the Arts for displays
Ralfonso Gschwend, known as "Ralfonso," President of the Kinetic Art Organization,
had discussed having an associate award at the event for the best international kinetic
art. This would allow artists who were not physically present to submit their work and
well -known kinetic art judges would select first, second, and third place winners as well
as a People's Choice award to artists regardless of whether they were present or not.
Another award could be given to an artist who was physically present in the show. The
judging could be accomplished via the website There would also be cash prizes
awarded from the Kinetic Art Organization.
The Marriott was interested in participating as one of the event sponsors A block of
rooms would be donated to accommodate traveling artists, and another block of
discounted rooms would be reserved for visitors travelling to the show. Ms. Coles -
Dobay explained she did not know the exact level of sponsorship they would provide,
but she was aware the Marriott liked to participate in these types of events. Their

participation also creates an opportunity to have kinetic art in the lobby as they like
cross promotions. Posters and marketing materials could be placed there.
The Palm Beach County Cultural Council was a sponsor and Ms. Coles -Dobay planned
to approach them to host the VIP night. They had already committed to help market the
event and tie many of the partners together.
Three energy companies were approached; however, no commitment had been
received. SuperGreen Solutions was a new company that was interested in
participating. One of their key management personnel, who was raised in Boynton
Beach, was very interested in assisting in some way and would attend the workshop to
obtain additional information.
Solar Tree through artist Rein Triefeldt would help with the educational component.
Citrus Creative Group assisted in the development of the website Discussions with the
Chamber of Commerce were ongoing and the Palm Beach County Art In Public Places
organization would help promote the Symposium and assist in other ways Arts Radio
Network would assist with marketing and advertising the event.
Tom Brewitz, a kinetic artist, has much of his work represented by Karen Lynn, who
would be a vendor and wanted to be present to put kinetic art on display. CornerMark
was Mr. Brewitz's company. It was noted there were art events held over the weekend,
some of which Ms. Coles -Dobay attended. The creators of OptArt, which is kinetic, 3 -D
type wall pieces, was very interested in participating in the event.
C. Review Workshop
The presentations would be given between 10 and 11:30 a.m. followed by a short break
with half- sandwiches and chips. Ms. Wolf commented she could only attend the
workshop for a few hours. Ms. Coles -Dobay would set up six tables facing one another
and then turn them around to form workgroups that would determine what aspects of
the event needed to be adjusted. There would be markers and paper at each table to
list ideas about how to deliver a professional presentation that was manageable and
successful in its first year. The event could be expanded in the future, but the focus
would be on how to deliver a succinct and informative symposium. It was suggested
the ideas promulgated from each group be broken down into future and current goals.
At the workshop, Ralfonso would elaborate on kinetic art, review examples of it, and
discuss the Kinetic Art Organization. He would further discuss the Symposium
deliverables. It was acknowledged this event was the first of its kind in the United
States. The members recited their presentation with a few corrections noted. Ms. Wolf
presented Kinetic Art in Education. Vice Chair Slocombe would make a presentation
about Outdoor and Indoor Exhibits. Ms Lorenz presented Vendors; Ms. Moeller
presented Speakers and Presenters, Ms Richman would present the Youth Workshop;

the Schoolhouse Children's Museum. The schedule and timeline for the various aspects
of the Symposium was reviewed. Comments and suggestions received would be
incorporated and distributed at the next Arts Commission meeting. Additionally, a
suggestion was made to have an evaluation form at the workshop as input from the
attendees would be helpful.
The members were invited to rehearse their presentations at the Library on Thursday
from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Ms. Coles -Dobay planned to be there from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. It
was noted the Symposium would have easy access as airports were nearby and
Boynton Beach was minutes from 1 -95.
D. Website update
Much information was added to the website. A video about kinetic art would be posted
there.
VI. Project Updates
A Boynton Lakes Plaza Public Art concept approval
The members had previously reviewed this item as a call to artist was issued for a
clock. The clock was planned to be installed on a tower, which was the focus of the
plaza; however, since visibility was an issue and the developer had to maintain the
clock and its mechanism, a decision was made to install a mosaic arch instead.
Ms. Coles -Dobay identified the location of the art, which would be installed at eye -level
and would be more visible. It was thought the arch provided more art for the money.
Motion
Mr. Combes moved to approve the concept. Ms. Bottorff seconded the motion that
unanimously passed.
B. AIPP video presentation
The members viewed the video.
