VII. COMMENTS
a. Chair
Chair Kaiser handed out the spring agenda. He would like to try and complete as many
months as possible to get caught up with the medals. Chair Kaiser requested that if
anyone knew someone who would be eligible for a medal, to provide the contact
information.
Chair Kaiser advised he was invited to a new railroad museum next to the Miami Zoo.
They unveiled a new monument and he was honored to read the program.
b. Members or Visitors
There were no comments.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS:
a. Veterans Memorial Park Events
On June 6, 2012 there would be the Coast Guard event and on August 7, 2012 would
be the 70 anniversary of Guadalcanal. Both of the events would take place at 11:00
a.m. The press releases were effective as the press coverage on December 7, 2011
consisted of both newspapers and three television stations. The Iraqi War Monument
Commemoration would take place November 11, 2012 during the Veterans Day
ceremony. Hopefully, something could be done for the Cuban Missile Crisis members
in October.
b. Four Chaplains Commemoration, February 5, 2012, 2:00 PM, Temple
Beth Kodesh
The event went very well and was attended by a congressman. Press coverage was
good and many people attended the event.
c. Awarding of French Legion of Honor Medals, Civic Center
January 19, 2012 — 11:30 AM

May 3, 2012 — 3:00 PM
d. City Commission approval, February 7, 2012 of monuments at
Veterans Park
The City Commission approved the following monuments:
U.S. Coast Guard & Auxiliary
U.S. Marine Corps
U.S. Army
U.S. Navy
U.S. Air Force
Cuban Missile Crisis
e. Donated flags and poles along center walkway (awaiting funding and
written proposal)
Chair Kaiser suggested the pole holders be placed in the ground so that the flags could
easily be placed in them at the ceremony. This would alleviate the need for insurance
and the cost would be minimal. Mr Magazine would check with the Parks Department
and inquire if that would be possible.
f. Florida National Guard available salvaged military pieces
At the last meeting, it was mentioned that the Florida National Guard had salvaged
military pieces on hand. Several were identified that would be available but there would
be excessive cost involved. They would not pay for anything, nor would the City. The
Park was too small for any large pieces. A torpedo was offered at one time, but it would
have taken up too much space in the Park.
There was a brief discussion on the cost of transporting and refurbishing the pieces, the
set up and periodic maintenance. It could cost up to $25,000.
g. Honorary Member Appointments (3 positions vacant)
Chair Kaiser advised there were three honorary appointment vacancies. It was
suggested that Harvey Oyer be nominated as an Honorary Member.
Motion
Mr. Farrington moved to consider Harvey Oyer for an honorary appointment. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Bregoli and unanimously approved. It would now go to the
City Commission for approval.

h. Park Brochure and Fundraisers (tabled)
Mr. Magazine indicated this was carried over from previous meetings when someone
had discussed creating a park brochure for Veterans Park. Chair Kaiser noted he would
take it under advisement if anyone wanted to do something in the future.
Chair Kaiser advised he was contacted by Cross Point Elementary about bringing
children to the park as part of their education. He further advised he would like to bring
schools in sometime in the spring and fall If transportation were an issue, he would
provide a driver for $50 if they had their own bus.
IX. NEW BUSINESS
a. Other
Mr. Magazine requested the Committee review the member list and confirm the
information was correct. If there was no email address listed and a member had one,
he would like it provided.
