Drug Free Policy Statement (HR — Pedro Escobar) — TABLED 10/12/2010 There was no report given on this Policy. F. Department lists for CPR /AED trained personnel Chair Bobich explained he received a lot of information via email regarding the names of individuals to take the CPR /Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) training. The only AED in City Hall was located in the Lobby, behind the Information Desk. Chair Bobich received a list of all the AED locations in the City. The Police Department recently purchased 15 AEDs, but they were all recalled by the manufacturer for replacement. When the replacements are received and training was completed, one would be placed in Communications, Training, 2210 S. Congress Avenue, Professional Standards and the remaining AEDs would be placed in the Quarter Master's Office and signed out by the Road Patrol officers. Mr. Magazine inquired if the AED order could be cancelled and reordered using the Fire Department's vendor. He noted the Police would be the only department using the equipment through that manufacturer. Additionally, if the Police had to use the equipment, when Fire /Rescue arrived, they would have to remove the Police equipment and replace it with their equipment, as they were not compatible. 2 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, Florida March 13, 2012 It would cost more in the long run to have two different types of equipment and creates more of a chance to receive the wrong supplies from the Warehouse. Fire /Rescue has used equipment from Physio Control for the last 25 to 30 years. The Police ordered equipment from Cardiac Science. It was thought City equipment should be consistent and it was hoped the Police would be able to cancel the order since the equipment was recalled. The Fire Department is a training center for the American Heart Association, and they have instructors who offer training in Heartsaver /AED use. It was thought all the officers would receive training. Discussion turned to the need to use an AED at a City Commission meeting. Mr. Magazine suggested if an event occurred, the City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk should advise she was starting CPR, request someone call 911, advise there is an AED in the Lobby and request someone get it. It was also noted there are usually Fire /Rescue personnel at the meetings who could handle this and there is a fire station on the east side of City Hall. The concern was if Police became involved, since the officers in attendance at the meetings are not always the same officers, they may not be aware of the AED's location. Mr. Landress sends the inspection forms for the AEDs the first of every year and inspects the equipment at City Hall each month. It was important the equipment be checked every month and it is up to the Department to maintain the equipment. Replacement items could be obtained through the Warehouse. To -date, there are 34 AEDs City -wide and it was agreed the AED locations would be published in the Safety Newsletter. Signs providing the location of the AED would also be posted. G. Other None. VI. New Business A. Departmental Safety Issues None. B. Other None. VII. Announcements 3 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, Florida March 13, 2012 A. Wellness & Benefits Fair, Thursday, March 22, 2012 A Wellness and Benefit Fair would be held on March 22, 2012. Three sessions would be held to accommodate employee work schedules, and smoothies would be available instead of lunch. B. Other The City received two awards at the Safety Awards Luncheon: one was for driving and the other was for slips and falls. Staff identified where most slips and falls occurred. Due to the Safety Newsletter and staff training, the City reduced these incidents. Chair Bobich also remarked he received several comments regarding the last Safety Bulletin He was pleased to know the Bulletin was read and employees were looking out for one another. More specifically, if there is a spill, it should be cleaned up regardless of who caused it. While it may be easier to use the safety cones, it only takes a few moments to clean it up. Employees should act to correct a safety hazard. When employees wash a coffee pot, they should dry it to prevent drips. Water fountains are to be used to take a drink of water, not cleaning dishes or used as a spittoon. VIII. Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 9:00 a.m. IX. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was properly adjourned at 9:27 a.m. 0 itt-itaLlttALOA/ k4,.1— Catherine Cherry Recording Secretary 031412 4
