The project is located on the west side of North Federal Hwy north of Boynton Beach Blvd. It borders the north side of Veterans Park formerly known as Bicentennial Park. The owner /entrepreneur has purchased several buildings one formerly know as the Tiki Tavern and has converted it to a backyard dining and drinking establishment. It is an open air space surrounded by a fence that conjures up the feeling of a safari camp. A silver airstream trailer is outfitted to serve "gourmet" backwoods food items. An outdoor tiki bar and several tree shaded rustic table tops await visitors to experience good food, drink and conversations about tall tales under the sun or night sky. To complete the experience the entrepreneur wanted to create an entrance that sets the stage for the visitors experience. This project DOES NOT have to comply to the public art ordinance but wanted to utilize the large gate entrance as a public art feature. The concepts that are provided were created by public artist Dana Donaty who was hired by the owner /entrepreneur and Architect firm working on the project. The owner /entrepreneur's contractors will fabricate the public art elements and install them to the entrance above the main gate. Ralfonso and reviewed with you many aspects of a partner /sponsor relationship that we can explore with you and the Karen Lynne Gallery. The details for this partner /sponsorship opportunity are as follows: City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places would provide: 1. AIPP has the list of Intl' Kinetic artists we have been compiling. 2. AIPP will distribute the invitation to artists for the outdoor and indoor exhibit opportunities. www.IntlKineticArtEven" daLU@ 1 IntIKineflcArts.or g CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH Debby Coles =Dobay Public Art Administrator 100 E. If the Exhibit Committee recommends and the Arts Commission approves it, Karen Lynne Asher can curate the indoor exhibit. If the Arts Commission agrees to the above, your responsibilities would be as follows: 1. Curate the indoor Symposium exhibit. Details would include: • Once indoor artist and artwork selection is made, coordinate delivery and installation of exhibit in the City Library Program Room and the Civic Center. Set up for indoor exhibit is scheduled for 10am - 3pm Friday, February 8, 2013. • Symposium volunteers would be available to assist with the hanging and set up of the indoor exhibit. • Once Symposium is completed break down is 6pm - 8pm Sunday, February 10, 2013. • Handle the on site sales of the indoor exhibit artwork during the Symposium. • Split 30% artwork sales commissions with Symposium (AIPP). 1. Write an introduction for the indoor exhibit that will be published in the Symposium marketing materials (show book, web site and booklet). This positions Karen Lynne Asher as the indoor curator providing a marketing advantage. 2. Promote the Symposium at the Karen Lynne Gallery booth spaces during the Art Miami (ArtBasel) Dec. 5 -9, 2012 and ArtPalmBeach Jan. 24 -28, 2013 art fairs with the possibility of displaying some of the Intl' Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium artists at the shows. Symposium invite cards, signage and /or program flyers can be available at booths. I will be available to meet with show officials to discuss logistics to showcase Kinetic artwork during art fairs. 3. For the timeframe of December 2012 through March 2013, simultaneously exhibit additional kinetic art from the selected Symposium artists in the Karen Lynne Gallery during the Symposium. Karen Lynne Asher would be responsible for the shipping, installation and insurance of additional kinetic artwork independent from the Symposium. An alternative would be to showcase the artwork at the Symposium and then take the "show on the road" to the Karen Lynne Gallery and perhaps even the Boca Raton Museum. This way the artists will be more willing to submit their work to the 2013 Intl Kinetic Exhibit and Symposium as they will be able to travel and enjoy the great South Florida weather. For above activities Karen Lynne Gallery would be a 2nd tier level sponsor in the event. Logo on all marketing materials and signage in the exhibit /vendor spaces during the event. Please review the above items we discussed and let me know which of the above activities you are committed to contributing to the 2013 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium. By the side of R.H. Cuthill as he bumbles through England, South Africa, Paris, The Orient, Alaska and life are two nurses; Ursula and Jane. Ursula and Jane keep R.H. Cuthill safe from wildlife, himself and care for him his whole life. Ursula and Jane's devotion to safeguarding R.H. Cuthill is symbolized by the large protective fortress like gate feature. Influences from his worldly travels are evident in the gate design. R.H. Cuthill, a man with many shortcomings and a thirst for scotch enjoyed life to the full. The Cuthill's restaurant experience is meant to celebrate the spirit of Ursula and Jane and the "it can happen to anyone" life of Colonel R.H. Cuthill. The project intent is to keep the celebratory spirit of two amazing women and the `it can happen to anyone' Alive & Thriving in Boynton Beach * see the full Cuthills Story attached Materials : The gate will be fabricated in wood and metal. The materials for the sculptural elements is TBD. Upon acceptance of the design, the project will go to bid for fabrication. It is understood that the project must meet Florida code and comply with Boynton Beach regulations. The project markets to: Everyone who believes `it could happen at anyone' and everyone who enjoys a relaxed backyard atmosphere with great food, refreshing beverages and live music Estimated Completion Date: TBD The Full Cuthills Story R.H. Cuthill was born outside Sussex England in 1855. Little is known about his life up to his 44th birthday, except that his accomplishments were few, his ego was large (fed by a steady diet of scotch), and he felt he was a man entirely unsuited for manual labor, (despite being without wit, social status, or any real means to support himself). The aforementioned shortcomings aside, his genuine lack of direction in life landed him in the army in 1901, an advanced age for the occupation to be sure. He managed to get commissioned a colonel (due to, many think, a paper work error) and was shipped out almost immediately to The Boers war in South Africa. The morning of what would have been his first taste of battle; the colonel accidentally discharged his side arm into his right shoulder and thusly ended his storied military career. The Colonel was nursed back to health in an army infirmary with the help of two young, beautiful, and bright German nurses named Ursula and Jane. Colonel Cuthill never returned to England. He wondered around South Africa with the two nurses for several years. The girls did their best to keep the Colonel out of trouble, fed, clothed and comfortable. It was the hunting and gathering prowess of Ursula and Jane that sustained our three heroes, even though the colonel had many tales of his hunting adventures, believed mainly to be fictional. It was Ursula that finally convinced the Colonel to settle down on a hundred and twenty acres near Kimberly, South Africa. After many years Ursula and Jane were showing signs of wonder lust having performed all of the duties associated with life on the farm in addition to looking after the Colonel, keeping him safe from the wildlife and himself. After a trip into town to secure provisions for the farm and a bottle of scotch for the colonel, the girls ran into a stranger named Cecil Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes offered the Colonel a very handsome price for his farm, which eventually became the center piece of a large diamond mining empire. What became of the Colonel and his compatriots is a bit fuzzy. He and the girls were seen dressed in finery from Paris to the Orient. They were seen on horseback in the Andean Mountains and prospecting for gold in Alaska. What happened from there is unknown, but we are sure that Ursula and Jane looked after the bumbling Colonel for the rest of his life. The Cuthill's restaurant experience is meant to celebrate the spirit of Ursula and Jane and the "it can happen to anyone" life of Colonel R.H. Cuthill.
