Safety Committee Education & Training — tbd Rick Lee, Boynton Beach Fire Marshall, had information about prohibiting open flames at the workplace. Information regarding candles was distributed detailing the hazards of indoor candles. Many individuals are allergic to candles, and they are often fragrance related. Additionally, some candles have lead wicks. The worst problem related to unattended flames is fire damage. Mr. Lee mentioned many electronic flameless candles are available, along with plug in fragrance items, for the work place if needed. Motion Mr. Magazine moved to add a ban, effective immediately, on open flames with exemptions by the Fire Marshall when no other alternatives are available to the next edition of the Safety Manual. Policies would be put in place for safety, and as long as there were appropriate safeguards, there could be exemptions for departments such as the lab and in welding areas. Vice Chair Altman seconded the motion that unanimously passed. After Mr. Lee's presentation, a short video was viewed about the operation of the Life Pack 500 AEDs found throughout the City. Chair Bobich advised the video was included with the purchase of each AED, and departments having the AED should have a copy of the video. Mr. Magazine inquired if there was an adapter that could be used for the City's Life Pack AEDs to make them compatible with the ones the Police Department was going to buy and was advised there were none. Mr. Magazine asked if there was a Spanish option available, but learned the videos were only available in English. V. Old Business A. Fire Drills None. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards None. C. It was anticipated more classes would be held in May. Mr. Magazine commented departments and individuals need to be responsible for monitoring their training and submitting the records to the Human Resources Department.
