VI. Chairperson's Remarks
Chair Lynch mentioned that she would still like to see members bring up outside
concerns.
VII. Old Business
• Donations for the Senior Center
Donations that are made to the Senior Center, have to be specified that they are for the
Senior Center.
• Boynton Beach Senior Center meal program
Chair Lynch advised names were still being accepted to be added to the meal program.
• The National Alzheimer Association's screening
The free screening provided by the Alzheimer Association was a great success.
VIII. New Business
• Transportation
Wally Majors, Director, Recreation and Parks, presented an overview of the Shopper
Hopper program. He explained last year when the budget was presented, the original
Shopper Hopper could not be included in the budget. He stated alternatives were
looked at including a voucher type program, but after research it was determined it was
not a viable option. It was discovered that the Volen Center had a program called the
LIFT program, which was a grant funded program where residents within Boca Raton
were provided door to door service for $5.00 each way. They indicated that service
may expand to Boynton Beach but could not begin until January 2013 due to the receipt
of the grant. If there was enough interest from the senior residents to have door -to -door
service, the cost would be $5.00 each way. Discussions ensued with the Volen Center
in an attempt to replicate the Shopper Hopper as the consensus among residents was
to keep the lower cost. An agreement was entered into with the Volen Center to provide
services close to what the Shopper Hopper provided for $3.00 each way. The City of
Boynton Beach gives the Volen Center $75,000 in funding to provide this service for the
residents. Mr. Majors advised that he should know by July what the budget would be for
the coming fiscal year.

• C.A.T. program
Chair Lynch advised she planned to speak to Officer Huntington about coming to the
Senior Center and providing information on the C.A.T. program. The program entails
filling out a form with a name, address, car description and license plate information.
This information would be entered into the police system. This form serves as
permission that if a senior's vehicle was seen on the streets after 10:00 p.m., an officer
could stop the vehicle without reason to verify it was the owner driving the vehicle.
An organization in Delray Beach would be coming to the Senior Center to offer a
presentation on identity theft and income tax fraud. This would take place on May 23,
2012 from 1:00 p.m. — 2:30 p.m.
Chair Lynch briefly mentioned the CarFit program that took place at the Senior Center
last year. It was sponsored by AARP and CarFit. The purpose of this program was to
provide instruction on backing up, becoming aware of what was on all sides of the
vehicle and other helpful hints. There was interest in holding one this year on a
Saturday. Chair Lynch would follow up to see if the program was available to be
presented on a Saturday.
Ms. Young shared information on a health program given by Susan Mandell. The
program was for all age groups. There was instruction on different health topics, as well
as different exercises that may benefit health. This was an outdoor activity. The cost
was free or by donation.
Mr. Preston mentioned there was an increased interest in veteran care. He shared
upcoming meetings, as well as information on a free seminar on living trusts, nursing
homes, Medicaid and veteran benefits that were available. This would be held at the
Marriott on Thursday, May 10 from 1:30 p m. — 4:00 p.m.
