VII. COMMENTS
a. Chair
Chair Kaiser advised the Coast Guard committed to a monument, as well as someone
else for the Iraqi monument. It was decided that a monument for the Cuban Missile
Crisis would also be erected. He advised the concrete was donated. However, the City
billed $1,950 for two 19 -20 foot sections that would go up the center. All that would be
needed was 12 feet on each side. The City wanted the Board to pay for more than
would be needed for the monuments. Chair Kaiser wanted direction on whether he
should go before the City Commission to get the 20 foot requirement reduced to the 12
feet that was needed. This was a priority as the concrete had to be poured in order for
it to set in time for the June 6 installation of the monument. Mr. Magazine advised
one reason the City had required this was due to Public Works indicating if a smaller
slab was installed, it may shift. As far as digging it out to ready it for the concrete out,
City staff had been cut and there was no one available to perform the work and no
budget set aside for it. He indicated that was the reason the Board was billed by the
City
Mr. Mitchell advised he knew of someone who was a licensed and insured contractor
that could pour the concrete as a donation. Mr. Mitchell would get his contact
information and pass it along to Chair Kaiser.
Motion
Mr. Farrington moved that regardless of where the Coast Guard monument would go,
and where it was projected to go, it would be positioned closer to the circle of the Army,
Navy, Marine and Air Force location. Mr. Preston seconded the motion that
unanimously passed
