IV. Safety Committee Education & Training
A short video regarding ergonomics was viewed. The video explained proper
ergonomics required a continuous effort. Worksite analysis identifies existing hazards
and areas and conditions where hazards may develop. It involves close scrutiny in the
tracking of injuries and illness records and areas of movement. It was important to
discuss ergonomic problems with employees so the work area could be changed and
the job made easier via better designed tools or chairs. An ergonomic checklist could
be developed.
Another element was hazard prevention and control. Once hazards were identified, one
could design measures to prevent or control them through engineering, work practices,
personal protective equipment and administrative controls. An example of an
engineering control could be adding new equipment or improved equipment to make the
job safer. A work practice means changing how employees do their jobs. Personal
protective equipment could include different types of gloves, eye protection or video
non-glare screens. Administrative controls could vary from changing purchasing
requirements and by implementing policies.
A final element was the implementation of a medical management system. Medical
providers should be contacted to help develop a medical management program.
Training and educating all employees, management, engineering, maintenance staff
and supervisors is needed.
Employers should program a coordinated assault on the problem as it is an asset to the
company. The size of a person, how the work station is designed and the variety of
equipment changes from person to person.
V. Old Business
A. Fire Drills
No fire drills were planned but there were several false alarms. Chair Bobich would
work with Ms. LeBlanc and Fire Department personnel to ensure the alarms were
working properly.
B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards
Mr. Pigott forwarded an award for Vicki Bornick, a Utilities Meter Reader. She was on
Corporate Drive in front of Lowe's and was flagged by a very panicked resident
attempting to put a fire out in the median. Ms. Bornick stopped, used her fire
extinguisher, and put the fire out. All were grateful for her assistance.

Mr. Landress announced the Fire Department was partnering with Human Resources to

the vaccine would be administered. Ms. Sholos complimented Fire Department
personnel on the administration of the program each year. The vaccinations would
again be administered at the Library, and given to City employees first. He noted 200
doses were ordered.
Ms. Vicki also announced the new Fleet Administrator, Mario Guzman, started Monday.
Chair Bobich noted an article in the Palm Beach Post indicated the traffic cameras in
Boynton Beach reduced automobile crashes by 55%. The information was provided by
the Police Traffic Analysis Unit who had tracked the data. He noted this was a dramatic
