Mr. Combes moved to approve the minutes with the addition. Ms. Bottorff seconded the
motion that unanimously passed.
A. September 25 meeting date "Yom Kippur ". Alternate meeting dates if Board
wants to change: Thursday, September 6th; Thursday, September 20th;
and Wednesday, September 26th.
After brief discussion, there was agreement not to change the meeting date.
B. July 19th — "Breezing through the Arts Trolley Tour" CBA
C. July 26 and August 29 — Arts District Art Walk with Plein -Air session
(Ms. Lorenz arrived.)
D. August 9 — Art Camp Artists Showcase
Ms. Coles - Dobay, Public Art Administrator, reviewed these events for the benefit of the
members.
A. Ocean Avenue "Specimen Tree" Dee Dee Morrison "Fireflys" lantern
concept approval
At the last meeting, all three public artists and their concepts were approved; however,
the members requested more direction and greater customization on the Firefly Lantern
concept. The information was relayed to the artist so she could make adjustments and
resubmit her work. It was thought her piece could be modeled with more architectural
elements and after Conrad Pickel, a stained glass artist, who had an architectural
influence on several buildings within the City. As a result, the artist attempted to make
them with brighter colors.
Discussion followed the first two items were similar and about the piece's width and
wind resistance. The inside of the piece would be illuminated by L.E.D. lighting. The
members reviewed the artist's work and determined it should be more Boynton Beach
like, but to press the artist further to change her style would be inappropriate as this was
her style. The members shared their comments regarding the lanterns and there was
consensus the changes were acceptable. The work was beautiful and professional, but
it just did not appear to be indicative of Boynton Beach. As to where the lanterns would
be placed, Ms. Coles - Dobay explained staff would measure the trees and determine
their placement.

A. Symposium "to do list"
Ms. Coles -Dobay had compiled a comprehensive list of items to be addressed by each
committee and discussion followed.
Marketing — Program draft & website updates
Exhibit Committee — The outdoor Kinetic Artwork Installation exhibit was discussed.
The pieces were arriving on September 26 and 27th for installation of the year -long
Exhibit. Two trucks would deliver art shipped from Colorado and the east coast. One
delivery site would be the Madsen Center in the north parking lot. The truck would
unload and volunteers would assemble the site. The pieces would arrive between 7
a.m. and noon and a more exact time would be provided as the date approached. It was
unknown how long it would take to install the art, but about 13 pieces were anticipated.
As they were unloading, the volunteers needed to check each piece as the parts would
be marked, wrapped or in crates and labeled. Rick Beau Lieu and City workers would
truck the art to the installation site. Artists Rein Triefelt, Paul Daniels, and Jeffrey
Laudenslater would install their own art and the volunteers install the other art from
artists who were not present. Hotel accommodations were made for them; however, Ms.
Coles -Dobay requested volunteers to pick them up at Ft. Lauderdale airport. The artists
would arrive on the Wednesday morning.
Mr. Combes commented he may be able to assist and Ms. Lorenz volunteered. Lunch
and dinner for the artists was still needed. A suggestion was made for the Arts
Commission to host a pot luck dinner and after brief discussion, there were no
objections to the members assembling at Ms. Wolf's home to welcome the artists. Each
member would bring a dish.
There were not many changes to the schedule as it pertained to the indoor exhibit as
contained in the meeting materials, but it was thought additional volunteers may be
needed to assist with displaying the work.
The members were comfortable with Sales of Artwork as contained in the meeting
materials.

Presentation Committee
Vendor Committee — Ms. Lorenz announced she and Ms. Coles -Dobay met with a
Commissioner from Ocean Ridge and with Barbara Lentz from Art Sea Living who
would assist in making contact with artists /vendors. She has contacted them several
times since the meeting, but had not heard back from them. She created a list of all the
kinetic artists /vendors she found on Etsy and she hoped the other two volunteers would
assist in making contact. Two favorable responses were received; however, of the two,
one was from Australia. She noted 85% of the individuals from the website were west
of Colorado and while they appeared interested in the event, they indicated they could
not attend. She advised these individuals they had a representative on Board to sell
their products even if they could not attend but had not heard back. She thought looking
locally may be beneficial. There was an Art In Motion gallery in Broward County that
was associated with the art museum, which she agreed to visit to try to solicit artists.
A suggestion was made for Ms. Lorenz to ask for any referrals of those that may be
interested in participating when she contacted the artists. Etsy was an organization of
individuals that create and sell their own art. Ms. Lorenz also requested assistance with
contacting individuals as she was completing her Masters Degree and her mother had
health issues. She was open to ideas and had encountered individuals who may be
interested in volunteering. The list she had included materials and suppliers. It was also
suggested copying Ms. Coles -Dobay on her communications, so she could craft a
question and answer section on the website. All was in place, but there was a lot of
follow -up. There were no vendors enlisted so far.
Sponsor Booths. Ms. Coles -Dobay explained the Library Program Room had 14
electrical outlets and three in the floor. The Civic Center had 12 outlets which could be
used by the sponsors, if needed.
Vendor booths were discussed. The City Manager's office suggested having a City
booth to promote the City's branding initiative. Carisse LeJeune, Assistant to the City
Manager, volunteered to help coordinate the activities. The International Sculpture
Center would have their materials at the same table as the show books because they
did not have staff available to man the event. Schedules and programs would be
available at one booth and volunteers would be needed for both Saturday and Sunday.
Boca Bearings would supply money for the outdoor and indoor kinetic art awards and
would help promote the symposium through their website. They were holding an
innovation contest with the winner receiving $10,000. A representative would be present
to discuss how ball bearings were used in kinetic art. He would also participate in the
presentation and would speak about the new 3 -D modeling machine.
Youth Workshop Committee. Mr. Combes had a model of the pinwheels the youth
would make at the workshop and a short discussion about materials ensued. The work
would be displayed the next day shut the size may be reduced. The participants would

receive a certificate. Artist Rein Triefeldt would go to each class to introduce himself as
a public artist and discuss kinetic art. Twenty -five students would be in each class.
The members discussed how to distribute the information. In order to be included in
Funfare Magazine, the information had to be submitted by the end of September. The
flyers could be distributed in the schools. Ms. Wolf volunteered to disseminate the
information within the school system. They would create a list and the members could
work from it. Ms. Tito had a list of art teachers, counselors and department chairs in the
Broward and Palm Beach County School districts that could be used. The information
would be sent via a PDF file. They would also include a link to pre- register for the
workshop.
Ms. Moeller reviewed they were putting the program together but there were many
loose ends. She did not know who the speakers or panelists would be. When the
information was received she would put it together. Ms. Coles -Dobay explained there
would be a morning and afternoon session on Saturday and Sunday. The 10 to 11:30
a.m. block would be broken into 15- minute segments. The reason they were changing
was because they were securing their speakers. They wanted the segments and time
for questions and answers.
The first presentation was entitled "Transition from Tradition ", which was the history of
kinetic art that would be given by Ralfonso. Ms. Coles -Dobay reviewed his presentation
and Stephen Maklansky, Director to the Boca Museum of Art, would discuss exhibiting
kinetic art. Kinetic art not only involves height, weight, and width, but it also involves
orbital air space. Kathleen Boone, would then give an overview of the David Bermant
Foundation, "Bermant: The Audacious Art Collector (2012), a tribute to the 35 years
that David commissioned, collected and displayed technological art." Janet Echelman,
wanted to contribute to the event, although Ms. Coles -Dobay did not have anything
more specific than an overview of the types of Kinetic Art Forms in Motion. Theo
Jansen's video provides a window for "his fascinating form of kinetic art where the line
between art and engineering is only in our minds." Another presentation would be
called Collaboration, facilitated by Ms. Coles- Dobay, that was composed of a panel of
multi - disciplinary individuals such as engineers, scientists, and artists discussing how
kinetic art is integrated. Dr. Zeigler, an expert on wind power technologies would be
present. Rein Triefeldt would speak about the SolArt project with students worldwide.
Each presentation would be about 10 -15 minutes with time for a Q & A.
Debby Bottorff left the meeting at 8:33 p.m.
VIP Reception Committee
Chair Ready explained shedid not have the opening reception finalized, but she was
working with one of the developer partners for the Old High School project who was
also a premier party planner in Palm Beach County. She would work with them for
food, wine and entertainment.

An invitation list would be compiled for the opening reception and there was brief
discussion about using dancers or other costumed entertainers. Ms. Tito would handle
sponsor relations. She would coordinate the sponsor details, obtain their logos,
commitments, marketing materials and general logistics to ensure the sponsors were
happy and taken care of.
Ms. Lorenz tried to distribute cards promoting the symposium at the local Farmer's
Market, however, the operator of the Farmer's Market the Community Redevelopment
Agency used was unaware of the event.
Ms. Coles -Dobay had emailed images of the artwork with the Civic Center to pre -
promote the Breeze into Boynton initiative, the December Plein -Air exhibit and Art
District. This year, the City was hosting the Palm Beach County League of Cities
Candidate Debate. The debate would provide a lot of exposure as about 200 people
attend and it would showcase art and culture in Boynton Beach as well. There was
discussion two works from Plein -Air did not appear to be appropriate and there was
agreement to edit out the pieces submitted by Steve Mash and Diane Hague.
Adjournment
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
