Library Advisory Board Minutes
October 24, 2012
Library Director, Craig Clark distributed the circulation statistics for the OverDrive eBooks system.
Boynton has the largest circulation of the participating libraries — over 26% of the total circulation. Craig
mentioned that Boynton has already signed up 345 patrons.
The Unique Management Collection Services report through the end of September 2012 was distributed to
the board. Over $31,000 has been submitted thus far for collections. The board discussed the high
percentage (17 %) of incorrect addresses that had been identified and discussed possible causes.
Craig presented a staffing update, the new Teen Librarian position will be Kristine who was promoted from a
Library Aide position. Janet DeVries position as archivist will be upgraded to Librarian /Archivist if
approved by City Commission. A donation will cover the extra expense for the first year and the library will
absorb the increased payroll after the first year. The Librarian status is needed to catalog the collection so
national access and publicity is available. The position may be filled as early as February if it gets approved.
The Newspaper Digitization Project was discussed. The collection is being carefully cataloged using many
key words so it is easily searched. The content may not be posted online, but searchers will still be able to
get hits on their keywords and contact the library to get access to the information. The NEH grant will give
the library a tool to use on the archived and donated collections to make them more usable. One newspaper
batch is still in the process of being digitized, but the city directories are done through 1975.
New Business — Craig distributed and discussed the library's FY2011 -2012 Year End Statistics Review. He
noted that customer visits were the highest ever and overall circulation was up. Circulation of the youth
collection represented a large part of the increase. A discussion by the board of the statistics resulted in very
positive comments regarding the great quality of the programming and the collection.
Library Director's Report Craig distributed the monthly reports for September 2012 and recent news
articles including one highlighting the recent exhibit and reception for Esther Orr were distributed. Other
articles highlighted library programming for September, the Barefoot Mailman memorabilia on display, and
the Boynton Reads literacy drive. The library is looking for donated children's books or donations to
purchase the books to be used during the Boynton Reads Book Drive in December. Craig mentioned that the
Rotary Club is active in the Boynton Reads program and also funds donations of dictionaries to third graders
in Boynton schools.
The next Library Board meeting is December 5, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
