4 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
5 BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED
6 GRADES K -12 CONTINUUM OF S.T.E.A.M. (SCIENCE,
7 TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, MATHEMATICS)
8 MAGNET PROGRAMS AT GALAXY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,
9 CONGRESS MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND BOYNTON BEACH HIGH
10 SCHOOL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

13 WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach places a high priority on providing its students
14 with the best educational opportunities as possible; and
15
16 WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach endorses the School District of Palm Beach
17 County's request for federal grant funding for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
18 Arts, Mathematics) Magnet Programs at Galaxy Elementary, Congress Middle School, and
19 Boynton Beach High School; and
20
21 WHEREAS, the educational experience of children and youth would be greatly
22 enhanced by placing magnet programs at Galaxy Elementary, Congress Middle School, and
23 Boynton Beach High School that would increase diversity and expand the educational
24 opportunities offered to students that reside in Boynton Beach; and
25
26 WHEREAS, the city of Boynton Beach believes that STEAM (STEM plus Arts)
27 programs at Galaxy Elementary, Congress Middle School, and Boynton Beach High School are
28 logical as students from the southern part of Palm Beach County will have access to rigorous
29 STEM as well as Arts programs currently not available for all students.

31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
32 THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

34 Section 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
35 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption
36 hereof.

38 Section 2. The city of Boynton Beach, Florida supports a S.T.E.A.M. magnet
39 program for Galaxy Elementary, Congress Middle School, and Boynton Beach High School,
40 located in the city of Boynton Beach.

42 Section 3. The city of Boynton Beach, Florida affirms its willingness to continue
43 its support of Palm Beach County Public Schools that serve Boynton Beach students.

1 ' Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of the resolution to
2 the School Board Members of the School District of Palm Beach County and Superintendent E.
3 Wayne Gent.

5 Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage
6 PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City of Boynton Beach, this /q Day of
7 February, 2013.
