Comments to survey form 2 -25 -13 Other marketing comments: Images in Notables of Ralfonso and the crew? Arts calendars of all newspapers, the PBCC, DDA, schools, etc. More coverage on local and regional TV and Radio interviews. Banners, Ads, Postings, organized distribution of brochures to all high frequency places like grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, etc.? Bigger marketing reach via active Facebook and Internet marketing (student project ?) Bigger draw from a larger region (Miami, Boca, WPB, Stuart and Jupiter, with much more PB County arts organization support!) Other category Comments: The weather was perfect and the exhibits were well presented. The indoor exhibits were very interesting but the location made it difficult to present them properly. The Civic Center auditorium was poorly lit and didn't have the ambience of a gallery. The library was somewhat better as it was a better lit room, but the displays were not given appropriate pedestals, as in a gallery. They were lined up along a table which didn't give the viewer the opportunity to view all sides, etc. I enjoyed the reception and exploring the School House for the first time. The presentations I attended were all informative. The audio was sometimes a problem. Having the presentations in the City Council Chambers, away from the rest of the event, may have been a problem for visibility in the programming. Meeting and networking with other artists that attended the event was very rewarding. This was certainly a highlight. The music was well presented. Saturday featured some recorded music that was more suitable for a different venue. It can be difficult knowing who the intended audience is. Sunday the live music was very interesting and enjoyable, especially the jazz. I really enjoyed Ralfonso's presentation of the works from around the world. This was a highlight. Due to the timing of Art Palm Beach, it may be beneficial having a booth at Art Palm Beach to promote the event. Enjoyed the expression of awe on the visitor's faces and their smiles Is there something else you'd like to experience at the next Kinetic Art Symposium Better turn -out. This unique event has the capacity to grow into a major South Florida event. Hook up with the PB County schools to provide a portion of the exhibit to student - produced works. Add more art and artists I believe that the event would benefit from promoting to all local art advisors, interior decorators, landscape designers, [do they have a regional showcase annually ?], and to art and garden clubs [especially since smaller kinetic works sold and probably for enjoyment on personal lawns... which might build more opportunities of sales for the artists, as there are less large public art opps. What was your over all experience having Boynton Beach host this event? Exceptional. The city staff were all extremely helpful and competent. Boynton Beach is one of the friendliest places I've ever been! Fantastic, i just wish it was closer to my home I think overall it was very good. I think the city needs to do a better job of cleaning up the Ocean Ave area. A lot of people / artists etc walked to meals and other attractions and it was pretty bad looking. Comments to survey form 2 -25 -13 A lot of litter and dead palm fronds hanging from the trees particularly on property that the CRA owns. Some of the outdoor pieces were surrounded by litter. Clean litter around the grounds Schedule the kid's activities to coincide with the lectures so mom and dad can drop kids off, and still make it to the lecture, and have time to go back and pick kids up after make sure more attention is paid to the stairs in the Civic Ctr ----- have railings installed, fix the lip at the top, and have volunteers whose only job is to stand there and advise people to be careful OR DON'T USE THE STAGE The feedback indicated the guests were impressed with Boynton hosting the event. The local eateries that I did have the pleasure to experience were very cordial. There are probably many "established" annual art events to north and south, for BB to establish its own event would distinguish it easily, yet dove - tailing off of the publicity of the "established events," might be key to BB's success. Is there anything else that you wish to add to the future event planning? Expanded advertising — Radio & TV; better coordination with local businesses; better volunteer coordination to assure coverage for lunches and periodic breaks. As mentioned above, visitors to City Hall were looking for greater indoor art exhibits and we could have utilized Commission Chambers for continuous video presentations when speakers were not active. In good weather, it would also be fun to close Ocean for a full block, and put some vendors /activities outside on the avenue. Docents on the street to help the flow would also be helpful. There were several comments that we had not marked the path well enough. Maybe some type of colored marker or additional signage between the buildings. (this comment is true of the City Hall campus in general, as I'm often stopped walking to my car by people trying to find PD, Library, Art Center, Civic Center, etc.) Children's programming needs to have a lower cost and be more accessible. There were complaints about not being able to easily sign workshop participants up (I had to drive to Intracoastal and add my 30 year old daughter into the database just to get her signed up for a 1.5 hour workshop!) Participants should be able to sign up and pay on site. It would be great to have a sponsor underwrite the cost of materials, so that the program cost could be reduced to around $5 for participation. I also liked the idea of making some additional workshop "kits" that people could purchase and assemble on their own. The other area that I think could be expanded is to hold a dedicated STEAM workshop on either Friday afternoon or Saturday to attract more teachers /educators to participate, perhaps in partnership with the School Board as a teacher enhancement program. Sarah Younger and Rein were tremendous speakers! Last comment — Strandbeest! If we can't get a real one here, perhaps he could send instructions for a maquette. That would make a really, really cool workshop for all ages. Galaxy Elementary organized art competitions wherein the best in show might be displayed at the next KAO Symposium. The thrust of technology and art was OK for the first symposium, however, I would not like to see it play such a large part in future exhibits. Comments to survey form 2 -25 -13 The only part of that discussion that made sense was Rein's talk on educating people and making solar more attractive and people friendly. I found all the other speakers on technology added little to the subject of art or technology. This is called "Kinetic Art" perhaps more discussion on movement, types of kinetic art such as naturally driven or electrically driven and should there be a separation in these forms of movement? What are some of the artists discovering about materials, tools and techniques? Are there resources we can share like engineers, material suppliers, speciality tooling such as 3D printing, laser cutters or water jet cutters, machinists, computer modeling software? Let's keep the network growing. Could there be an ongoing blog site to give us insight into when and how volunteers and community members can get involved early on? Promote the catalog better prior to the event by letting people about the DVD that comes with it. And a poster explaining that during the event too. Also I think having a PR & marketing meeting prior to the next event would be a good idea. I just wonder if there's a way to get more people to attend — Maybe high school /college art students or gallery owners or hook up with some of the art fair planners I especially enjoyed the symposium and talks — I'd love to see more people come and take advantage of it.... As a volunteer at the indoor exhibits I would have liked to be better educated as to the back stories on some of the pieces. I had no idea that the piece by Paul Daniel was a model for a full size working piece in Baltimore's inner harbor. I think it was talked about at an artist presentation but as a volunteer I did not want to be away from the building. I would have liked to know more about the static electric bowl so I could have explained it to the people. I think that the artist presentations should be early in the day or later in the evening. A lot of the people were interested in meeting the artist and they were out of the building much of the time. Markers on the sidewalks indicating the paths. Even with the map, some people continued down ocean avenue hoping to see more sculptures and many people were not aware the indoor art continued at the library and vis versa. Signage and banners around town posting the event at least two weeks in advance. Acrobatics. Golf cart rides for the disabled. Having Theo Jansen build one Strandbeast on your beach for the next event would surely put your event on the map instantaneously! with student assistants? and coordinated with Palm Beach, Boca, Miami art museum /collectors /art fairs! Perhaps you could tie into the Miami Art Fairs... I think there was one just after our Feb -10th ending. A photo ad in their pre -event publicity; this would eventually build your audience of event attendees and collectors who would put it on their calendars for the next Kinetic Art event. hope I might have been helpful. I experience in thought it was one of the best efforts by the City of Boynton Beach to bring the Community together to Boynton celebrate Art and Culture! Good first step in doing something different that is not happening elsewhere. Beach? Expanding the event throughout the city or CRA area should be considered, although having it concentrated in one area made for easy viewing. Well done and worthwhile event should be continued, Volunteer - excellent first run. I was actually glad that we didn't get larger crowds which I'm not sure I could have handled, impressed with the dedication of the docents who came and stayed all day and were extraordinarily attentive to both visitors and artists.Miami based artists - "We love our Boynton Beach family." how can it be better than boynton hosting this event! Pleasant, friendly, informative, not an high level of art world visits to the event, Great event. Well managed and attended. Great for the community! Organizers did a wonderful job, Since I live in Boca, Boynton Beach is my neighbor and aside from spending parts of all three days of the event in Boynton Beach, on numerous occasions my wife and I travel to and dine in B.B, Very good event and worthwhile for Boynton Beach citizens and businesses. Regret that I didn't get to all events or see the BB beach which I hear is beautiful Anything else More signage, More representation of local artists and art organizations, such as local museums and the to add to Armory Arts Center, Docent tour of the show, Food vendors outside, Easier voting ballot, Volunteers to help future» folks get between each location, Established good foundation for future growth planning? More appeal to art collectors and appreciators, More days of showing the art!
