Chair's Report: Jeannie congratulated the winning commission candidates and noted that they were all library supporters. Unfinished Business: Mike Naughton demonstrated the new Freegal Music Download program which allows patrons to download 3 songs per week and keep the songs. The app is downloaded from iTunes or Android and the library card number is entered to identify our patrons. About 3 million tunes are available in various genres. In March about 30 of our patrons downloaded 128 songs. Craig distributed the monthly Overdrive eBooks System report and noted that we had 22 new patrons joining the system in February. Boynton Library patron usage is the majority of the total usage of all 13 participating libraries with Delray and Parkland Libraries the next largest users. The Unique Management collection Services report was also distributed to the board. The collection service results remain about the same with over $10,500 in materials and money collected so far. Ann discussed the Adult Reading Club which is still registering people. About 40% have completed the program so far this year. There are many repeat registrants indicating that the program is well liked. -Craig reported that the Friends of the Library Author Luncheon raised over $4,000 which will be used to help fund programming in the library. The attendance and proceeds were both higher than last year. Craig also reported that the open part-time Library Aide position has been posted. A donation of 4 pallets of books, by a small company in Delray, is being reviewed for various uses, including adding to the collection, selling in the bookstore, and distributing during summer reading programs. The library plans to keep enough copies of a few books to do four mid -grade reading programs. Craig spent a few minutes discussing the budget process and promised to bring the proposed budget to the next meeting. He described the new Digital Service Librarian position he is asking for in the new budget. The Digital Services Librarian would be responsible for web page content, Facebook and Twitter postings, and teaching patrons how to use digital technology. Jeannie reminded board members of the need to advocate for more library funding during upcoming summer budget hearings. New Business: Two proclamations for National Library Week and Preservation Week will be discussed and presented at the next city commission meeting. Library Director's Report: The February monthly report was presented. Craig noted that the extra day in Leap Year last year caused the apparent drop in circulation figures. Recently published library articles were distributed including one on Susan Swiatosz, the new Archivist. The next library board meeting is April 24, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
