June 24, 2013 Meeting Narrative
The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm.
The following members were present: Robert Lapin, Jack McVey, Betty Pierce Roe,
Catherine Scantlan and Charles Kanter. Staff present were Wally Majors, Glenda
Hall and Debby Coles-Dobay. Guests included Deborah Bottorff from the Art
Advisory Board and Renee Stern.
The Board approved the minutes from the June meeting.
th
Wally announced that the Department is organizing the July 4 activities and
fireworks, and, since parking will be limited, recommended that board members park
at City Hall and use the shuttle.
The Board was then taken on a tour of the following parks and future park sites:
Boynton Village & Town Center (future park site), Quantum (future park site),
Barton Park, Greenway and Cemetery, Meadows/Nautica (future park sites) Galaxy
Park, Oyer Park and Intracoastal Park.
The Board discussed the possibility of using the Boynton Village & Town Center site
as venue for a dog park. There was consensus that this would be the most ideal
location for a dog park. Chair Pierce-Roe suggested that the City consider allowing
dogs on a leash at one of our existing parks.
Chair Pierce-Roe also expressed her support of the food trucks that had been
permitted to use Oyer Park on Wednesday evenings. She indicated that this was
something very positive for the community, and attracted many families and people
who enjoyed being able to get good food at a park.
The board was shown the Quantum park site from both the Quantum Blvd. (south)
side and the Miner Road (north) side. Wally and Glenda explained that we still have
some issues with people dumping illegally on the site.
There was brief discussion about the Meadows/Nautica sites. Some of the residents
in the Meadows development have expressed interest in acquiring the site from the
City. However, we don’t have any specific details at this time.
Staff explained that plans for Galaxy Park include the connection to the Barton
Greenway through the existing scrub. The scrub currently stands between the Park
and the Greenway.
Wally announced that the July 22 meeting needs to cancelled or rescheduled since it
conflicts with the City’s budget workshops.
The July meeting is cancelled.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15pm.
