Minutes 11-12-13 MINUTES OF THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2013, AT 9:00 A.M., CONFERENCE ROOM B, IN CITY HALL 10 E. Call to Order Chair Bobich called the meeting to order at 9:06 a.m. II. Roll Call Roll call was taken. A quorum was present. III. Acceptance of Minutes of October 8, 2013 Regular Meeting There was one correction as follows on page 2, second paragraph, first sentence as follows: "Chair Bobich also went to a meeting attended by the new Area Director for the ERy o rAP1PYlental DreteGt ger,nā€ž Occupational Safety and Health Administration." Motion Mr. Dauta moved to approve the minutes as amended. Ms. Scott seconded the motion that unanimously passed. MEETING MINUTES SAFETY COMMITTEE BEACH, BOYNTON FL NOVEMBER 1, 2013 IV. Safety Committee Education & Training Chair Bobich distributed a handout about ergonomics. It contained information about the importance of taking breaks, keeping work at the elbow level, looking away from work from time to time, standing up and shifting weight, and taking stretch breaks. He explained doing so can help job performance. Worksite evaluations can take place to see if adjustments can be made. He emphasized it is always good to get up and move around. If anyone had concerns, he requested they give Risk Management a call. In the past, Pam Webb and Chuck Magazine have conducted worksite evaluations and Ms. Webb or Chair Bobich were available to answer specific questions. V. Old Business A. Fire Drills Chair Bobich announced they had a fire drill -type situation in the West Wing when a child pulled the fire alarm. Employees did what they were supposed to and evacuated until they were cleared by the Fire Department to return. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards None. C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetings Chair Bobich explained he receives the inspections electronically. D. Incident Review Board Referrals None. E. Drug Free Policy Statement (HR/RM ā€” Mark Bobich /Pam Webb) ā€” TABLED 10/12/2010 Chair Bobich explained the Policy will probably be tabled to next year. They have a draft policy and when finalized, it will be a stand -alone policy. F. Safety Manual Review Chair Bobich explained he would like to have this completed so they can commence updates for next year. He commented since the document is electronic, he would like to include hyperlinks to the OSHA website for various topics. G. Departmental Safety Issues Chair Bobich noted this morning there was a large puddle of water by the Police Department and it was unusual. He had no additional information to report; however, Mr. Brode explained they pressure cleaned on Saturday. B. Pass out Safety Award Pins Chair Bobich advised he will distribute the pins after the meeting, and he congratulated all on their efforts on behalf of safety. C. Other Ms. Webb had new insurance cards, an updated OOPS Card and simple instructions on incident reporting if involved in an accident. For those who do not use City -owned vehicles, and use their private vehicles, there is a another card. Mr. Guzman was very good about putting the information in all the vehicles and advised anyone who has a City vehicle needed the cards. She emphasized employees involved in an accident should never accept any liability, discuss payment or repayment of damaged property. They should only indicate they will be contacted by Risk Management. She commented State laws change and the insurance cards are only valid for six months. VII. Announcements A. Other Chair Bobich wished all a Happy Thanksgiving and commented the Veterans' Pearl Harbor Day celebration will take place the morning of the Holiday Parade on December 7, 2013. VIII. Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, December 10, 2013, 9:00 a.m. IX. Adjournment Motion There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Naughton moved to adjourn.
