Presently two sculptures exist in the Quantum Town Center. Previously approved at the April 23, 2013 Arts
Commission meeting were two new sculptures in the Quantum Town Center and one new sculpture located
at Manatee Bay South on Federal Hwy. If approved two additional sculptures would be placed in Quantum
Town Center, a new one and the one moved from Manatee Bay project. If approved a total 6 sculptures
would be located in the Quantum Town Center, 4 new ones and 2 existing ones.
"DANCER" New art piece — requesting approval to be installed at Quantum Town Center.
Arts Commission approved Artist ZHOU HONG as a qualified public
artist and his two artworks, "A TEAR MUST FALL" and "WE ARE
COMING APART" at the April 2013 meeting. He is the artist for the
new sculpture titled "DANCER" that the developer is proposing to
site at Quantum Town Center.
=
"DANCER" SCULPTURE DESCRIPTION
In the sculpture "Dancer" the artist is portraying two slim and fit
ballet dancers who are in continuous motion with their bodies
twisting in all directions.
In many fully realistic sculptures the artist does not leave
interpretation of the art piece up to the viewer. However, "Dancers" Oak
is an abstract piece of art and not intended to portray something so
definitively.
"Dancers" with its two upward stainless pieces coming out of a
single body /base encourages the viewer to delve into their own
feelings and imagination and see what is meant to be seen
individually by the artist. It could portray the growth of a plant or tree
which is born of a single seed; or a single base that for no apparent
reason splits into two, separating shortly after being brought above
ground or after birth. Or, could it be the dance of life?
The artist, Zhou Hong, wants each person to see what their mind
tells them the art is about and what the artist saw as he created this
sculpture and named it "Dancers ". The wonderful nature and
purpose of abstract art is to stimulate and encourage one's
imagination.
