Dear Members of the Education and Youth Advisory Board,
Poinciana Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Magnet School is
located in Boynton Beach and is an American School of Distinction. Poinciana has been awarded
the Five Star School Award for the past five years, which is presented annually to those schools that
have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement and academic performance. Poinciana
currently serves 521 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. All of our students
participate in the unique, hands on curriculum including classes conducted in our very own
planetarium. Every kindergarten student builds their own birdhouse and the 2nd - 5 I grade
students participate in Palm Beach County's only robotics classes for elementary students.
Poinciana Elementary STEM Magnet School and the PTA would appreciate your support with
sponsoring a Scientist /Mathematician of the Month Breakfast This exceptional program has
been offered at our school for many years, partially due to generous donations from the community.
Sixty students across all grades are recognized every month for excellence in math, science and
citizenship. Specific criteria must be met in order for the students to be recognized. They must
demonstrate a desire to learn, have enthusiasm for learning, and display good citizenship.
Mathematicians of the Month must also find alternative ways to solve problems and display strong
academics or have made significant improvement Scientists of the Month must also display self -
motivated interest in science, display an inquiring attitude and make scientific connections. During
the monthly breakfast we typically host sixty students, their parents and a few grandparents, for a
total of about 200 breakfasts, ten times per year. Each student is presented with a certificate of
achievement from the Principal, Mrs. Lee and the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bloom. We are
passionate about this program and wish to continue recognizing the students that show such a
positive interest in learning.
The Poinciana PTA is a 501(c) (3) organization and will provide any and all necessary
documentation needed for tax purposes. The PTA would also extend an invitation to you to attend
a breakfast at which you will be recognized.
On behalf of Florida's young math and science talent, thank you for your consideration and belief in
America's future technological leaders.
Thank you for your time and support
Sincerely,
Heather Veeravagu
