Unfinished Business:
- Library Director Craig Clark distributed the cumulative Over -Drive e-books report for 2013. The report shows
that Boynton's Overdrive patrons checked out 390 items in December. The report also showed over 4,000
checkouts in 2013, for a cost of about $6000, or approximately $1.50 per checkout. A new contract for 2014 has
been signed due to the success of the program.
- The Unique Management Collection Services report was also distributed to the board. The collection service
has recovered over $12,000 in materials to date, and recovered over $5,700. Annual ROI information will be
presented at the next meeting.
- Craig introduced two new staff members. The Children's Librarian position has been filled by Mary-Kate
Fowee, who recently moved here from Anchorage Alaska. Jeff Fream is the new PT Division Head Librarian
replacing Mae Giaimo. Craig announced Pamela Edwards, formerly a Manpower temp, has also joined the team
as a part-time Library Aide.
- The Digital Creative Commons (DCC) area for teens is progressing nicely. A teen focus group and a visit to
YOU Media Center in Miami generated much enthusiasm and many ideas. Anne is currently waiting for the
city to complete its audit so our State Aid funding can be used to purchase the furniture for the room.
- Craig discussed briefly the upcoming Friend's Author Luncheon. Dr. Robert Watson and his son Alex, co-
authors of Tsunami, will be the guest speakers. Donations are needed for the Chinese Auction. The luncheon is
a major fundraiser necessary for funding various programming at the library.
New Business: The Adult Reading Club begins in January. A Tote Bag will be the club prize for the readers.
Board members signed up to read eight books to get the prize.
The city will refresh the paint around the entrances as well as install improved signage directing patrons to the
Library entrance. No Smoking and No Loitering signs will also be installed.
Anne shared a new program to tutor teens who need help in a more private setting. Space has been made for
this new program which will also use digital literacy tutoring programs to help improve SAT scores.
Library Director's Report: Craig distributed monthly reports for October, November, and December and
discussed his expectation that children's visits and circulation will begin to rebound now that the new children's
librarian is onboard. He also distributed flyers about the Brown Bag Series and What's on Wednesdays program
series.
The next library board meeting is February 26, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 4:46 p.m.
