Correspondence: Barbara Weinberg called to say she would not make the meeting. Public Audience: Jeannie welcomed one guest, Mrs. D. Taylor. Chair's Report: An article about the recent forum on the development of the downtown area was distributed and discussed. The workshop participants indicated that the Library is an important downtown anchor. Unfinished Business: Craig distributed the Over Drive e-Books report for April 2014. The report shows that Boynton's Overdrive patrons checked out 413 items in April. Boynton Beach Library is in second place for checkouts behind Delray Beach library which had 446 checkouts. We added 27 new patrons to the system and circulation is up 17% over the same time last year. The Unique Management Collection Services report was also distributed to the board. The collection service % of Dollars activated is at 50.83 %, with $7086 total dollars recovered to date. In addition the program has recovered over $14,700 in materials. During the staffing update Craig stated that he was planning to re- combine the two part time Division Head Librarian positions in order to be able to fill the position with someone who has the correct qualifications and experience. Some juggling with the other positions will be needed to be able to pay for the required benefits. The position will be offered to a current employee. An open page position was also filled. The Digital Creative Commons (DCC) area for teens planning continues. Quotes on the necessary furniture came in higher than expected so some redesign and reuse of current furniture will be done to stay within the $6400 budget. Craig donated an iPad he won for the teens to use. The Adult Reading Club final report was given. 190 people registered and 120 completed the program and got the bags. New Business: The children's summer reading program is ready to go with more in -house programming and less paid programming. The money saved will be used for equipment and music instruments for the DCC area. Assistant Director, Anne Watts, mentioned that the teens are both helpful and respectful. The prizes distributed will be tickets, which will be used for drawings for larger prizes. This year the program rewards kids for the amount of time they are reading instead of the number of books read. The kick -off party will be June 9 with a hot dog cookout and sidewalk chalk drawing out in the employee parking lot. Library Director's Report: Craig distributed the monthly report for April and made note of some of the statistics. The Freegal music download service reported an increase of 280% over the same month last year. Craig also noted that the humidity in library was too high and that staff was working to lower it. He also shared newspaper articles regarding the AmeriCorps volunteers and the origami Panther displayed in the children's area. Anne mentioned that Tate's Comics, the new comic book store in the mall, is donating graphic novels to the library. Anne is working with another area business, Marathon Music, to try and get them to become a business partner and hopefully donate music or instruments.
