Minutes 08-12-14 MINUTES OF THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2014 AT 9:00 A.M., IN CITY HALL, CONFERENCE ROOM B, 100 E. Call to Order Chair Bobich called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m. II. Roll Call A quorum was present. III. Acceptance of Minutes of 07/12/14 regular meeting Motion Mr. Naughton moved to approve. Ms. Webb seconded the motion that unanimously passed. IV. Safety Committee Education & Training. Chair Bobich informed the Committee that back and lifting safety posters have been posted around the building and asked everyone to focus on this aspect as there have been a lot of claims recently regarding back injuries. Chair Bobich advised that back safety awareness is of paramount importance and employees should be informed not to be afraid of asking for help when lifting or moving any type of object. He asked everyone to take this message back to their departments and recommended the video for power lift training. 1 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, Florida August 12, 2014 IVis. Sholoc Ms. Webb informed the meeting that she is currently dealing with nine back injury claims and some of the claimants are in need of surgery. She stated she would make sure the City of Boynton is made aware that safety training is available and encourage people to be careful when lifting etc. Chair Bobich offered safety training and Ms. Sholos advised that there is a new program coming out on safety training which can be downloaded. She will circulate via email when this is available. It is anticipated to be available in October. Mr. Lee asked the members the best way to circulate and make people aware of a 12 -part PowerPoint presentation (one for each month) on fire prevention safety training. The members suggested using Inside Boynton (iboynton.city.cbb) as a means of circulation as well as the shared drive. He reported seniors account for 85% of cooking accidents in the kitchen. The first presentation is for September and is entitled "Anti Fall Day ". Mr. Lee offered to forward a disk incorporating these presentations to Mr. Majors. Mr Lee stated he would speak with ITS regarding circulation of the presentation as soon as the person who is dealing with this returns from vacation on August 22 " Chair Bobich suggested having a separate link to I- Boynton featuring these training issues instead of putting them on the shared drive. The three most important issues at the moment are fire prevention, back safety awareness and backing up of vehicles and this is to be addressed with ITS. It was also suggested that an excerpt be put in the Safety Newsletter, informing employees of what training courses will be available in the near future. Chair Bobich asked if anyone had any incident pictures to download them into the Incident Folder and Ms. Webb will put them onto Laserfiche. Ms. Webb advised Risk Management is 99% paperless. V. Old Business A. Fire Drills Chair Bobich stated he had received reports from Rick Lee and Recreation and Parks. Recreation and Parks has various facilities covering all age groups. The fire drills are required. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards None C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetings. Chair Bobich asked for electronic versions of any inspections /meetings. D. Safety Manual (Update in Process) The Safety Manual update is ongoing. VI. New Business A. Departmental Safety Issues None B. Safety supplies in vehicles. Chair Bobich impressed the importance of having safety supplies available for the employees who are out on job sites in vehicles. VII. Announcements Ms. Webb announced that Risk Management and HR are in the process of planning an open house to inform employees of what can be offered to them and their departments regarding safety and HR. This will be held the end of October or beginning of November. VIII. Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 9:00 a.m. Motion Ms. West made a motion to adjourn.
