appoint a liaison from the Library Board to the Friends of the Library Board to establish better communications
between the groups. Craig noted that the library is dependent on the Friends for funding support. He also reported
that the Friends are currently selling Hearts to raise money and also sending out donation request letters.
Unfinished Business:
Library Director Craig Clark distributed the Over Drive e -books report for January 2015. The report shows that
Boynton's Overdrive patrons had 451 checkouts, a 14% increase over the same month last year. Twenty eight new
Boynton users signed up in January. The Unique Management Collection Services report was also distributed to
the board. The collection service has collected $9,553 dollars to date. In addition, the program has recovered close
to $19,800 in materials.
During the staffing update, Craig stated that Marc Cadet who was promoted to fill a part-time Library Aide
position from a page position is working out well. Craig is interviewing candidates for the vacant positions of
Library Page and Library Aide. He also announced his intention to request funding for the Digital Services
Librarian position in the next budget.
The Transparent Languages Database is up and running with 90 users signed up. Twenty four different languages
have been accessed more than once with English for French speakers remaining the most popular.
Zinio, the new online magazine subscription database, was demonstrated by Craig. There are 110 magazine
choices, which can be checked out. Some popular choices included National Geographic, Cloth Paper Scissors and
Spirituality and Health. Fifty two magazines have been checked out in the short time the program has been active.
Assistant Director Ann Watts shared statistics on the Adult Reading program that just began. There are 166 adults
registered and 27 people have already completed their ten book reading goal and received the prize.
New Business: The new 2015 YALSA/ Dollar General Summer Reading Resources Grant was awarded to buy
books and materials to support the Heroes theme for the summer reading program. The funds will supplement
materials in the anime and comic genre and also purchase books used in the kids and teen book discussions. Ann
mentioned that Tate's book store has been a good partner for these materials also. Craig discussed the 2015 State
Aid grant of $90,137 and the technology it funds. He also mentioned the addition of two new literacy computers
specifically programmed for children up to eight years old which were received from the state library (LSTA
funded). There are also ten tablets loaded with math and reading games available in the children's department.
Library Director's Report: Craig reported meeting with the new State Librarian Amy Johnson and discussed the
need for lobbying state representatives for more funding for State Aid and library cooperatives. He will be
attending Library Day at the Legislature on March 17 to give information about SEFLIN and the services it
provides. Craig distributed the monthly report for January 2015 and made note of increased E -book circulation,
Freegal music downloads and a large jump in Juvenile and Young Adult circulation. The board discussed whether
increased use of NetFlix use could be responsible for lower Audiovisual circulation.
