Minutes 03-25-15Valerie Pleasanton, Secretary CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH Boynton Beach City Library Library Advisory Board Minutes March 25, 2015 The Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Jeannie Taylor. All board members were present. The meeting minutes from February 25, 2015 were approved as distributed. Correspondence: None. Public Audience: None. Chair's Report: None. Unfinished Business: Craig Clark, Library Director, distributed the Over Drive e -Books report for February 2015. The report shows that Boynton's Overdrive patrons had 359 checkouts, and we signed up 21 new users. The Unique Management Collection Services report was also distributed to the board. The collection service has collected $10,173 dollars to date. In addition, the program has recovered over $20,200 in materials. Craig also reported that SirsiDynix is upgrading their iBistro search program to Enterprise, a more efficient collection search program with advanced features. A new agreement has just been signed and the library will be now be able to customize the search screen with icons linking patrons to Zinio (for magazines) and Overdrive (for eBooks) and other electronic collections. During the staffing update, Craig said he has hired Virginia and Christine as part-time Library Aides. He is sharing the hours from the vacant part time page position between other pages who want to work more hours. They can work up to 29.75 hours weekly and remain part time. The Transparent Languages Database has 102 users signed up. Two new languages, English for Haitian speakers and English for Somali speakers were added. There were 245 language sessions during March Zinio, the new online reader and magazine subscription database had 108 checkouts in March. Press releases about the new program have not yet been released. The city is planning to redesign and update the city web pages. The library is planning to share results of a focus group looking at features to add with the city before the design phase begins. Assistant Director, Anne Watts, shared statistics on the Adult Reading program. There are 174 adults registered and 95 people have already completed their ten book reading goal and received a beautiful red umbrella with the library logo. New Business: Craig discussed his plans to revamp the way staff collects and keeps statistics with the purpose of being able to report more often and more accurately about library activities. Current statistics do not present a complete picture of all that is happening at the library. Another discussion about happenings at the library revolved around social media and its use by staff to share information with the public. Craig currently does Twitter but is actively seeking to add a Digital Services Librarian position to the budget for next year. The Digital Services librarian would be responsible for social media interaction. Jeannie reported that Mayor Jerry Taylor attended the Literacy Coalition luncheon. The author was interesting and the event was very well attended. Library Director's Report: Craig attended Library Day at the Legislature on March 17 in Tallahassee to meet with senators and representatives to speak about library services needed and State Aid funding. He described the day as interesting and informative. Craig distributed the monthly report for February 2015 and made note of increased Freegal music downloads and a large jump in Juvenile and Young Adult circulation. He also mentioned new forms to request access to archived materials and briefly talked about acquisition and retention of the materials. A Proclamation for National Library Day on April 7 is on the city commission agenda. There was no media coverage in March. The next library board meeting is March 22, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the meeting room.
