Library Advisory Board Minutes
June 24, 2015
The Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Jeannie Taylor, chair. All board members
were present except Laurie Sulzer, D'Ette Matthews and newly appointed alternate Lesha Roundtree. The meeting
minutes from April 22, 2015 were approved as distributed with correction of a minor grammatical typo. The May
27, 2015 minutes were also approved as distributed.

Public Audience: None.
Chair's Report: The State Library budget came in at $5 million less than last year which is disappointing. The
impact on our library is lower state funding by approximately $18,000.
Unfinished Business:
Craig Clark, Library Director, informed the board that Karen Abramson is in Michigan because her mom passed
away. The board members expressed their condolences. Craig also discussed a change to the part-time Library
Page position that is open. It has been combined with the part time cataloger position in order to make a full time
cataloging position which will be easier to fill.
Craig distributed statistics for various library services including the Freegal Music download program. There were
629 music downloads by 46 patrons during May. The Over Drive e-Books report for May 2015 shows that
Boynton's Overdrive patrons had 548 checkouts and we gained 20 new users. The Unique Management Collection
Service has collected $11,188 dollars to date. In addition, the program has recovered over $21,760 in materials.
Eighteen users of the new Transparent Languages Database engaged in 41 sessions in May. Spanish and German
were the most popular choices. Our patrons also used the Zinio magazine download service to checkout 94
magazines, which is about 34% of the total usage by all member libraries for the month. Alldata.com statistics for
May show that is was used by two patrons to access information regarding car repair and /or access the collision
database. There were 58 sessions in May reported by Learning Express, a service which provides math refreshers
and ACT /SAT practice exams and other adult learning tools to our patrons. A Google Analytics report showed
over 17,000 page views of the library web site in May with 63.5% of visits by new visitors. Another new service
that is offered is eSequels which helps patrons locate sequels or other titles by an author. This new service had 9
users in May.
Craig discussed the policy which allows children and teens to "read off' their overdue fines. The policy is popular
which parents because it encourages reading while keeping the kids engaged with the library staff.
New Business: The library board unanimously approved a proposal to cancel the August 2015 meeting and to
merge the November and December meetings in order to avoid holiday time. The combined Nov /Dec meeting will
be December 2" Craig reported that Subway has submitted a proposal to go into the cafe space. The cafe will be
closed from the end of June until another vendor is approved and reopens.
Library Director's Report: Craig distributed the monthly report for both April and May 2015 and made note of
the important contributions made by the AmeriCorps staff who are tutoring students and particularly the teens as
they work to complete projects and pass tests before the end of the school year. Digital access and use of the
library's services continue to increase rapidly. A newspaper article about the Sailfish Cafe proposal by Subway
was distributed to board members. Craig reminded the board that the City Commission will be meeting in July to
review the city budget, including the library's budget. All board members were encouraged to attend.
The next library board meeting is July 22, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the meeting room.
