We did not relocate the electrical box because that would have required pulling new wire a very long distance. By next Tuesday, we will have graded the area and removed additional debris. Concrete curbing and sidewalk are scheduled to be completed on Monday. Staff assures me that all work will be completed by Tuesday. Therefore, the area will be ready for pavers on Wednesday, May 6. I will have crews available to assist the paver contractor as may be necessary. Let me know when the contractor would like to begin work. I met with City staff on site this morning. We will begin the following actions: 1. Plant removal on the east half of the island. This will be done by our contractor. Should be done within ten days or so. 2. Irrigation head location is fine and relocation is not necessary. 3. After plants are removed, we will have our Utility staff place the backflow preventer in a buried box and relocate other above ground elements. 4. Also after plants are removed, our electrician will replace the electrical components to have one line connected to a new outlet on the flagpole, leading to the up light for the flag. 5. City staff will remove and replace a six foot section of curbing to allow for depressed handicapped access to the island from the Legion. As part of this file: / / /C:/ Users /LINDAN -'1 / AppData /Local/Temp/Low/IDKSZQ91.htm 5/11/2015 Gmail - RE: Gate Post Page 2 of 4 work we plan to replace sidewalk on the northeast corner adjacent to the Legion. I am not fond of the depressed swale area near the pedestrians. 6. The City will remove the directional arrows in the island and use thermoplastic pavement markings instead to guide motorists around the island. The reality is that no matter what we do, drivers will "cut the corner ". 7. Upon completion of all hardscape work, the City will place minimal new plantings, benches, etc. We will work with the Legion to ensure they like the plant ideas before implementation. All told, I would like to have all of our work done in two weeks. But, since this is government, you can count on three to four weeks more likely. As our work proceeds I will keep everyone in the loop so that paver work can be scheduled. I appreciate all that is being done on this project. The combination of volunteered efforts, city work, and big hearts is going to make this a really cool area for the Vets!
