Dear Ms Sherri Claude,
Thank You for keeping me informed on the City of Boynton Youth Volunteer Bank dates. I was
have been able to participate for several years beginning with Cub Scout Pack 243 at Poinciana
Elementary School and have continued through middle school.
As an 8` grade student at Don Estridge High Tech Middle School in Boca, I am participating in
my 4 cn year season of FIRST Lego League Robotics Competition with Coach Gloria Gibson. The
FIRST competition is a sport for the mind mixing science and technology for innovative solutions.
Our team of 5 boys, was invited to participate in the FLL Razorback Invitational Tournament in
Arkansas in May 2015. We will participate in competition, ceremonies with STEM speakers and
interact with over 70 teams from around the world representing over 20 different countries.
We are working on fundraising to make this trip possible.
I am enclosing a fundraising letter. Can you help us by passing this on to the City Commission
and Steve Waldman? All 5 of the boys on my team attended Poinciana Elementary School in
Boynton, we live in Boynton, Lantana and Lake Worth. We also have a Mindstorm Robot
programmed to play the National Anthem!! We have used it in opening ceremonies of various
statewide tournaments and would be glad to bring it to a City Commission meeting if we need
to present our fundraising letter in person. Thank you for your help.
Thank yoy.

March 12, 2015
It is with great pleasure that I announce Don Estridge High Tech Middle School's
lego robotics team qualified for the FIRST Lego League RAZORBACK
Invitational to be held May 14 through May 17 at University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team called "Taz Bot RENEGADES" received the
DON invitation based on their strong performance at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL)
asrRIDQk Florida State Tournament that was held on March 8th at the University of Central
H614 TECH, 4; Florida, Orlando. The RAZORBACK Invitational Tournament will host 64 teams
,,.. H, 1
V < from around the world who have achieved Champion's Award recognition —the
Taz Bot RENEGADES are honored to represent the State of Florida.
FIRSTo LEGO League (FLL) is an international program for 9 to 16 year -olds to
get children excited about science and technology – and teach them valuable
ASS PRI c AL employment and life skills. This year's theme "FLL World Class" challenged
students to teach others the way they would like to learn in the 21 Century . The
LAT TAINIT MILLER team participated in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL P P g y P g g
JUSTINE YOUNG points on a playing field (Robot Game) within a set time (2 1/2 minutes) and
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL developing an innovative solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all
JAMIE THYNG guided by the FLL Core Values. In order to receive the invitation to the next
CHOICE COORDINATOR level, a team must present and perfoini well in all parts of the FLL Challenge.
We estimate that it will cost $6,000 for this team to take this journey. The
students will be fundraising to help pay for the costs associated with their
participation but will still require support from our community to offset all of the
expenses. We are asking for monetary donations and/or items to help pay for
the travel related and registration costs. Any amount donated to our children
would be appreciated. If you would like to make a donation to help fund the
.. team's trip to Arkansas, checks can be made out to Don Estridge High Tech
Middle School, 1798 Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton, Fl 33431....memo FLL
Robotics team. For additional information glo> ia.gibson(palmbeachschools.org.
Thanking you in advance for any support you can give to these deserving
students.

Purpose/Program: All Visual Art Classes K -5 at Freedom Shores Elem.-
Fl t se describe the goals/needs/participants of the program and a brief description of
current finances and/or fundraising efforts:
Our school's art kiln of twelve years is no longer workable. I had a kiln repair
person look at the kiln and said for the money it would take to refurbish it; it would be
more feasible to order a brand new one. Having a new kiln will allow every student
(approximately 930) in every class (K-5) have access to making three - dimensional art
using clay as the medium. This is the only opportunity our students have in the
elementary curriculum to work with clay and use their hands as they touch and shape
various three - dimensional forms. This is a wonderful medium for all types of students
(ESE, EBD, ELL, regular and gifted) because it helps them to express themselves in
ways that they might not be able to in the two - dimensional world.
This spring I began raising money for the new kiln. So far I was able to raise
$1500.00 between a school- wide fundraiser and a donation from our Parent Student
Organization.
I am looking for a donation of $500.00 to complete the purchase so that my
school may have a new kiln for the students to use for y rs to come.
I hope you consider our school request as one of your community service
projects.
