Vi. Public Audience
Steve Braten, 12100 Colony Preserve Drive, father of new member Josh Braten inquired
what the Board does.
Ms. Claude explained the Board has several projects they worked on for years such as the
Youth Volunteer Bank, which encourages and rewards youth who volunteer in the
community. The Board sponsors the Bob Borovy Student Citizen of the Year Award, which
is a scholarship available to any high school senior that lives in the City. It is a cash award
based on volunteer service. The Board holds fundraisers throughout the year in order to
make contributions and donations to help various schools. Over the past nine years, the
Board donated over $15,000 to local schools for different projects. Ms. Claude offered to
provide an application for the Youth Volunteer Bank and a brochure that listed past
donations. Ms. Claude noted there have been instances when the Board assisted the
School District to obtain a letter of support from the City. Dr. North commented they try to
engage the youth and students in the City and they support various initiatives and schools.

A. Shred-A-Thon
Ms. Claude requested direction if the Board wanted to hold the event again, and if so, if they
should use another company and if she should continue to make arrangements. Vice Chair
Hayden wanted to continue the event but wanted to defer a decision until Lori Wilkinson, who
handles the event, was present. Vice Chair Hayden recalled the Board held the event twice a
year. Dr. North explained the Shred-A-Thon event for the benefit of the new members. The
funds raised were used for initiatives the Board supports. Ms. Lundquist inquired if the Board

would hold the event three times a year. Vice Chair Hayden recalled they had discussed
holding an event after tax season, with two sessions that day, with some type of an RSVP to
try to obtain a head count. Dr. North agreed because the last time they held the event, the
truck was filled and they had discussed both a morning and afternoon session to allow the
truck to empty its contents in between and return. Ms. Claude also recalled discussion about
holding a third event, but needed to know if she should pursue the matter. Dr. North
suggested they ascertain what dates the company had available at the end of April or early
May. Ms. Claude agreed to contact the firm after the holidays.
B. Tennis Carnival
Ms. Claude announced the tennis pro at Hunters Run tentatively scheduled the event for April
23'd, which was advertised. Since former Board Member Mary Morera handled the event, she
requested Ms. Claude follow up with the tennis pro in early February and make any changes if
needed. She asked if a member would like to handle this event for the Board and explained
the Tennis Carnival is a morning of free games and tennis lessons. A former Board member,
who was a resident of the Hunters Run community organized the event years ago and they
continued the event.
Vice Chair Hayden acknowledged the members have busy schedules and suggested they
rotate attendance at their events, especially for longer events such as the Shred-A-Thon. Dr.
North suggested they develop a schedule for all Board members to participate.
C. Youth Volunteer Bank/Bob Borovy Award
Vice Chair Hayden reviewed the account summary as follows:
• Borovy Award - $3,449
• Youth Volunteer Bank - $1,455
• Harvey Oyer Jr., Community Contributions - $1,184
• Tennis Carnival - $386
• Total Funds - $6,974
Vice Chair Hayden noted at the last meeting, Ms. Miller wanted to personally donate funds to
the Boynton Beach High School Dimensional Harmony Choir. Ms. Claude explained the
Board had donated $500 and the original discussion was if the Board donated $400, Ms.
Miller would donate $100. Ms. Miller expressed she was still interested in making a $100
personal donation and was advised to mail the check to Ms. Claude with a note.
IX. Future Meeting Dates: January 7, 2016
February 25, 2016
Ms. Claude pointed out Wally Majors, Recreation and Parks Director, would attend the
January meeting in her place due to a personal commitment.
