a contemporary, aesthetically pleasing ambiance. Artist Debbie Marucci was the
selected artist and the budget was $6,000. Ms. Marucci has done several projects in
the City before. The most prominent one was on the gates on MLK Jr. Boulevard and
Seacrest. She gave other examples of public art projects she and her husband did as
contained in the meeting backup.
The project for the preschool would be located at the entrance. There is an enclosed
area with a cement walkway to the doors. To the right and left are grassy areas and Ms.
Marucci was proposing to create a friendship ring sculpture. The sculpture would be
installed on a pad, but the pad would have a play surface so youth can play on it. The

welded and sanded for safety, hand painted and clear coated. It is not inside the

Arts Commission
Boynton Beach, Florida November 10, 2016
Ms. Coles-Dobay explained the members had discussed marketing in the past and she
distributed a handout. The first part was press releases and social media were being
worked on. They try to continuously supply information to the press regarding all the
components of the event leading up to the weekend of it. As art is installed, the
information is added to the website. The members were distributing Save the Date
cards. They were distributed at the International Sculpture Center conference and
others will be distributed at various City locations and hotel and concierge locations.
Eighteen thousand cards will be inserted into the Coastal Star January edition. The Arts
Commission also distributes the cards at Art Basel in December and at Art Palm Beach
in January. The Arts Commission uses tee shirts for staff and volunteers and also
produces the program. They were looking for a promotional item, but they had not yet
decided on what would be used. The Arts Commission had discussed social media
stations and the International Sculpture Center, which promotes the event through an
ad. The event is also advertised in Art Hives. The ad will be corning out in the winter
edition and Arts Commission members are at a lot of the different events in South
Florida. The event will be advertised in various other locations such as the Links Golf
Course.
Funfare Magazine will have a full page ad in the next issue. Chair Weiss asked who
mans the booth at Art Palm Beach. Ms. Coles-Dobay explained in the past, members
had volunteered. The 18th is the opening night, similar to a VIP night. The members
had taken different shifts. Ms. Lorenz thought it was exciting as there is a lot of artwork
and people there and it provides great exposure. Elayna Toby Singer had items at the
booth and she sold a few. Ms. Coles-Dobay agreed to provide the hours to the
members and they will put together a volunteer schedule. January 18th is a Wednesday
and the event runs through Friday. Setup is during the day. They use billboards and
digital events with advertising partners, directional and informational signs, feather and
tent banners and street signs. There are some new signs this year. The Arts
Commission will use the same branding image.

IX. NEW BUSINESS
A. Bloomer Tree Repair - schedule and costs
Ms. Coles-Dobay wanted to update the Board about the Bloomer Tree sculpture repair.
She advised there are several components to the repair. First a fabrication shop will
bend the piece back into place, reshape it and structurally reinforce it. The piece had
been moved and then the storm hit. It will be reinforced up through the tree itself so it
will not bend again and they will make the top part removable from the base. From
there it will be transported to Riviera Beach to a high finish polish shop that specializes
in this type of work and then it comes back to Boynton Beach and is installed. The cost
of $9,255 will come from the public art budget. Ms. Coles-Dobay explained there was a
damage assessment conducted after the storm and the damage was coded for the
storm. It was hoped the damage would be covered.
