VI. Public Audience Peter Guillaume, Boynton Beach resident, stated he has worked in the community for several years providing educational resources through churches and schools. He was interested in working with the Board to further his work in the community. Mr. Guillaume described his group, Human X Development Enterpraise, which works with the Healing Arts Center and several churches for mentoring people in college classes and community program management. They try to get church members involved to offer jobs to youth, and his clientele come from high schools and post -high school. His website includes all the events and activities they have done. Mr. Guillaume wanted to find out if the City has any ideas to help him advance his efforts. He said he had previously contacted someone connected with the Community Garden, who referred him to Habitat for Humanity. Lori Wilkinson encouraged him to return to a Board meeting when his project is more organized. She recommended some steps for him to take, including making flyers and meeting one-on-one with City officials or Commissioners. Vice Chair Hayden suggested attending a CRA Board meeting, since they might be able to buy property for a community garden. She mentioned several elementary schools that have gardens and suggested he talk to some school principals and the school district. Lori Wilkinson advised him when the City Commission meets and how to prepare for a presentation (public audience). Vice Chair Hayden recommended that he should make an appointment with someone at City Hall to discuss the history of the City. VII. New Business A. Old Business 2 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida October 27, 2016 A. Board Retreat —Agenda Chair North reminded the Board that the retreat will be November 12 at 10:00 a.m. She mentioned that she wanted to discuss fundraising opportunities and community outreach (educating the community about what the Board does). She commented that there is a lot of competition for the shredding event, so they need to find more ways to fundraise. Angelica Nevin asked that they take a more holistic view of the upcoming year and try to plan better in terms of timing of events, particularly the Shred-A-Thon. B. Shred-A-Thon Report The gross profit was $561, expenses were $300, and the net profit was $261. Chair North thought the event went smoothly, with no backlogs. Vice Chair Hayden noted that the event in May of 2015 brought in more money, and she wondered if a better time could be selected. Chair North also commented that part of the problem might be that other organizations are doing shredding for free. Vice Chair Hayden pointed out that their event is for a charitable cause and thought they should stress that more. Angelica Nevins noted a continuing decline in the profits. C. Youth Volunteer Bank/Bob Borovy Award The Youth Volunteer Bank has $1,248 and the Bob Borovy Award account has $2,112. IX. Future Meeting Dates The Board Retreat will be November 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Intracoastal Park Clubhouse. Vice Chair Hayden said she would not be able to attend, due to a scheduling conflict. The next regular meetings will be December 15, 2016, and January 26, 2017. Sherri Claude reported that Dave Cordray at Hunters' Run cannot do the tennis carnival because he is ill.
