The spire-like shapes projecting into the sky engage the quality and play of sunlight. These spires painted yellow would contrast dramatically with the blue of the sky. Thematically, the splayed vertical elements have their basis in my interpretation of palm fronds. The palm frond's thin delicate floral elements that project into the sky and 4 are so much a part of the landscape would here be ' introduced and experienced within a different context. Although the sculpture is not kinetic, the interlaced folded metal shapes indicate movement as if they are being articulated by the air from the sea. As the sun traverses, the play of light and shade will dramatically increase the sculptures dynamism. At various times the sculpture may be seen in silhouette or in aspects of shadow— changing constantly with the passage of time."Albert Paley Albert Paley I Sculptor PRESS CREDITS: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/local/the-tallest-piece-public-art-the- county-boynton-beach/mSBEOKMDNdB6fuavPx2lzl/ https://www.bocalifemagazine.com/up-front/noteworthy/boynton-beach- installs-sculptures-around-town-promote-town-square-cultural http://boyntonbeach.com/blog/2017/09/albert-on-the-avenue-sculptures/ http://www.wptv.com/lifestyle/taste-and-see/iconic-sculptures-installed- around-boynton-beach http://www.wpbf.com/article/massive-art-exhibition-takes-over-boynton- beach/12772292 Town Square Boynton Beach Public Art Master Plan Phase 1 - Conceptual 10-11-17 DRAFT The objective for the Public Art Master Plan Phase 1 Conceptual is to create the narrative and identify possible locations and potential artful experiences for the Town Square Boynton Beach project. The plan's narrative captures the input from various workshops and surveys conducted, particularly the August 24, 2017 workshop and community engagement session for open spaces. This facilitated engagement process used the five senses plus movement as a way to find out how the workshop participants wanted the future Town Square experience to feel. Public art examples and the list of Arts Commission Master Plan top three art forms; kinetic, glass and Eco artworks, was included in the open spaces presentation prior to engagement sessions. The workshop results are attached as exhibit A summary of the top desired experiences and feelings that were communicated are: coastal colors, water, nature, shade/tree canopy, pleasant smells in the air, reminders of the community's history and areas that are reflective and calming as well as vibrant and interactive places. There was also a strong desire to create in Town Square a place that encourages multigenerational and multicultural happenings, both planned and unplanned. The idea that Town Square could represent the whole community while also promoting movement /exploration of other places in Boynton was also expressed. The workshops and surveys have demonstrated the community members' understanding and desire for public art that will provide interaction and positive effects as well as the opportunity to develop a world class Town Square plan that includes public open space integrated with public art. Public Art Master Plan Narrative: The public art for the Town Square Cultural District will assist in visually defining the district as well as creating interactive artworks that are project and site specific. It is envisioned that the public art in Town Square should support the success of Town Square and be reflective of the entire City. This will include works that promote the unique characteristics of Boynton Beach and recognize its past and future as a coastal, multi-generational, multi-cultural and all Inclusive community. Consideration will be given to the community's desire for multipurpose programming use of facilities and open space thus allowing for changing and various experiences throughout the day such as places that are calm and intimate as well as bustling with people and invigorating. Woven into the Town Square experience is consideration of the natural environment, some important iconic trees and how the vegetation can be engaged to bring solutions to overall needs for Town Square. Developed through a public / private partnership, there is a unique opportunity for the public art to create impressive experiences for all stakeholders and the community in a holistic fashion. The physicality of the public art should be such that it promotes the commercial, residential and public entities and encourages flow from Boynton Beach Boulevard into Town Square and beyond. Having artwork that relates in some way as it moves through the Town Square can allow the moving effect desired. The public art can also assist to define purpose of space and way finding. Given the nature of this project and the process taken, it is clear that the Public Art will become a "wow" factor for the new Town Square Boynton Beach. Possible Locations and Concepts for the Public Art: In order to accomplish the desired level of iconic public art for Town Square Boynton Beach, we start with an analysis of possible locations and concepts to meet these goals. This is a broad exercise at a high level to engage and promote points of discussion among the design team. Any public art examples provided in association with this document at this stage are meant to encourage thought only. The direction so far has been to have public art in Town Square Boynton Beach that is made for the unique needs and desires of the project. A broadening and distillation of ideas presented in this document will take place during Phase 2 in order to get down to more detail including priority, budget, timelines and type of artist(s) engagement; invitation and/or call to artists. The desires outline in the Public Art Master Plan Narrative will provide points of inspiration for the artwork produced. Please see attached map for locations listed. 1 .
