The public art budget for the project is estimated at $9,800.00. The improvements are going to be implemented quickly with a construction scheduled if April -August 2018. Project objective: To create brand identity and character for the park it is recommended to site the public art as Sara Sims Park main entryway feature. At this location the public art will deliver the greatest impact to the project, provide highly visibility to visitors and connect to neighboring public art features. It will not incorporate the park name or become a sign, but set the stage for what the park represents to the community. Project background: The 1 00' w x 25' h graffiti mural, Neighborhood Vibes completed in 2009, exists on the racquetball wall facing MILK Blvd overlooking the basketball courts and will remain in the park. This mural project, funded by Palm Beach County Youth Violence Prevention Program at $10,000, engaged well known graffiti artists to teach youth the difference between illegal tagging and the process to create a community graffiti mural. On the corner of MILK and Seacrest, a short distance away, are b " three colorful (azar cut panels that were completed in the summery of 2011 as part of the Seacrest Streetscape project. The panels were created by artist Debbie Marucci of DMarucci Designs. The budget for the 3 panels was $25,000. For the Seacrest Streetscape project five 2 hour engagement sessions with four generations of stakeholders who contributed meaningful imagery and concepts. These concepts were integrated into the 3 panels that today reflect the history, presents and future of the community. F The artist, Debbie Marucci, was chosen for the Seacrestt " Streetscape project to compliment her style and fabrication durability demonstrated in her artwork titled, Butterfly Mandela. Butterfly Mandela Butterfly Mandela was purchased in July 2009 for $3,200 by the CRA from the Avenue of the Arts exhibit and installed in the Heritage Park on the SW corner of MILK and Seacrest. Project Recommendation: Based on the fast track timing for the park improvement project, public art budget and artist's familiarity with the community's history, the recommendation is to invite Debbie Marucci to create the entranceway feature for the Sara Sims Park. Since both the graffiti mural, Neighborhood Vibes, and the Seacrest Streetscape panels include musical themed imagery, the recommendation is to continue with this theme for the public art entryway feature for Sara Sims Park. Seacrest Streetscape reference: Seacrest Streetscape painted aluminum lazar cut panels located at MLK & Seacrest. Note the music theme that relates to the graffiti mural. The new public art entryway feature for the Sara Sims Park project can connect with this theme. s Future Panel - Left side reflect hands and music bar with notes. t tt \ 4-- 1 } ! afire T 7 I — ' o \ f li r . 3 µ;vt,v« u.
