Recommend to open the new exhibits by honoring a few prominent artists who have contributed to the City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places program. #1 Rick Beau Lieu and #2 Ralph Papa. X. UNFINISHED BUSINESS - TOWN SQUARE PLAN A. Town Square Plan • Potential deaccession (decommission) and relocation for existing public art (See attached document TSP public art locations) Public art ordinance recommends that once every 4 years an evolution of the Art in Public Places collection is conducted to determine if artworks should be removed and make recommendations for decommissioning and/or replacement. Deaccessioning is defined as the process by which a work of art or other object is permanently removed from a collection. Deaccessioning is a practical and constructive tool of collections care that, if practiced thoughtfully supports the long-term preservation of a collection and can help an entity refine the scope of its collection in order to better serve its mission and community. Decommissioned is defined as to the formal process to remove art from its active status, through methods including (but not limited to): sale, donation or disposal/destruction. ARE YOU AN ARTIST, AUTHOR, PHOTOGRAPHER OR FILMMAKER? Young Artists & Authors Showcase 2018 Theme: The Art of Diplomacy Sister Cities International aims to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation - one individual, one community at a time. This year's theme, "The Art of Diplomacy" highlights the importance of citizen diplomacy and the innovative ways citizen diplomats achieve peace through people-to-people interaction. Students are encouraged to draw inspiration from their experiences with sister cities, travel, exchange, international friendships, and the many ways that people cultivate relationships across cultures. Open to all students from 13-18 years of age who live in or attend school in Les Cayes (Haiti), Qufu' (China), Rauma (Finland) or Boynton Beach, Florida. All entries will be exhibited at the Boynton Beach Mall in April, 2018. Here is the website for the international group: http://www.lpbvt.org/ Boynton Beach is too large to qualify to join this program, but I thought we might want to adopt some of their selection criteria as we work to make the CRA and the City more beautiful and as a tourist destination with our new Town Square. Some criteria include: i--the protection of our historic and cultural heritage (note the children's museum, the Woman's Club, and the under- renovation Old High School), 2—showing a strategy to preserve and promote the city (think our social media), and 3—eco-friendly tourism (we need to work more on this). I have a few thoughts to help with the beautification: 1—increase the amount of lights on major streets and key locations around town (i.e. white LED lights on trees in front of the mall, city hall, and on Ocean Avenue), 2—add rows of lit trees up and down BB Blvd with the DOE renovation, and finally, 3—hanging baskets of flowers from the light poles or businesses on Ocean Avenue along with over-sized pots with trees & flowers also on Ocean Avenue from the Intra-Coastal to Seacrest (see pictures I've attached). Boynton has received a lot of bad press lately, so let's make our city beautiful. The CRA, in the heart of the city, is the logical place to start such a beautification program. Get the businesses in the CRA to start with lights, trees, and flower baskets—and feature their beautiful facades more heavily via the CRA social media so the business owners feel it is worth their effort. 4 1`,,' .• lit - ,l4.
