~he meeting was e~lled to order at 7:35 P.M., with James G. Brown, Sanita~
Emgineer~ Palm Beach Oounty Health Department, in attendance together ~ith other
interested citizens.
The M~yor ann~uced that the meeting was called for the puroose of discussing
and d~?rm~. ~g what action and procedure bhe City Council shoul~ take regarding
a headline item ~hinh appeared in the Bo2-nton Beach Press M~y 21, 1959, ms ~
result Of iuquiries by Nr. J. A. Cmm~ugs at the last re igc!ar meeting of the
Council on May 18, 1959, which read as follows: Water Unfit For Human Consump-
tion.
Mr. James G. Brown was asked to address those present. He~ in turn,
assured those present of the fitness of the water supply of Boynton B~ach,
and e~plained the procedures followed by his department and the responsibility
resting with it.
A letter was read from the Palm Beach County He~!th Department addressed
to the City stating t~t the water did, according to a recent check, meet the
requirements of their department, the State Boa_~d of Health.
Mr. J. A. Cummings made a statement from the audience 5_uwhich he stated
that he objected to a newspaper taking a personal opinion of his and printing
it in a newspaper.

+.he audience, !_~. Ba~hm~u moved that the Coumcil instruct the City Attorney
to demsmd a retract&on in the Boynton Press of equal size and space and to
consider bringing civil and/or criminal liable suits against the Boynton Press.
Mr. I~dsen seconded the motion ~mich passed three to two, ~. Oyer and
¥~. Durkin voting no.
Mr. Baughman f~rther moved that the City place a ~/4 page advertisement in
the Boynton Beach 2~ews quoting the let~er frem the Palm Beach County Health
Department so that the citizens could have tdae true facts in the case. i~. ~dsen
seconded the motion which passed four to one~ l~r. Darkin voting no and stating
t~t he voted no because he felt the expenditure ~u~ecessary.
M~. Baugbm~_umoved that a copy of the letter from the Palm Beach County
Health Department be printed as an emergency letter and mailed to every water
consumer in the Oity on the mait~ug list. ~, t~dsen seconded the motion which
passed
