The City Council convened at a Soecial Meeting at
the City Hall at ?.30 P,M,~ November 29th~ qb
Councilmen ~resent:
Mr, W, T, Wooibright~
Mr. Ralph Ross
Mr, F, L, Purinton
Mr, Clarence Benson
Mayor
The Mayor stated this meeting was called at the re-
quest of Co-muci!man Benson~ and asked him to stats the purpose
of the meeting° Mr. Benson quoted from ths City Charter~ stat-
lng that any city employee sngaging in political campaigning
was smbject to discharge. He sta~ed that the City Judge~
Stevens had been so engaged~ an8 that he had ~wo witnessss to
suooort his statement. Following discussion by all Councilmen~
motion was made by Mr. Benson~ seconded by Mr. Woo!bright~ and
un~minously carried that Mr. Stevens be d~scharged.
Mr, Stevens was ~resent at the meeting~ and then
oresented the following ~e~ter:

I hereby tender my resignation as M~anicioa! Judge to take
effect i~mediately, I wish to thank Co~missioners Ross~ Woolbright
and. it is with deco regret that my good friend Co~missioner B.V,
Tattersall is not here to accept my thanks,
i also wish to thaD2~ the ?olice Department for their fine
coooeration, i have tried to live uo to my oath of office and
have no aoologies to make.

A motion was made by Mr. Benson~ seconded by Mr.
Purinton~ that Mr. Roy Chaoman be appointed~Municioai Judge.
Motion carrie~ unaminously.
Police Officer F, W, Cline apoeared before the meet-
ing~ and at the request of the Mayor reosated occurrances at the
Club Continental on Friday svening~ November 26th~ 19~8, Mr,
Cline described an argument between himself and Mr, Harry Jacobson~
Manager of the Club Continental~ regarding a license or oermission
to operate a movie in the Club Continental, During the discussion~
the following letter~ from Mr, Georg~ Getz~ was read by Mr, Wool-
bright:

Dear Mr. Woo!bright:
I have learned a few days ago of your being voted in as
Mayor Wro Tem of Doynton Beach. May i congratulate you and wish
you every success, i realize as Mayor you will no doubt have
many oroblams out before you and I have every reason to believe
you will deal ,with them in a non-oartisanmanner.
I would like to call to your attention the fact that I have
made several comolaints in the oast concerning th~ nuisance which
exists just two blocks from my residence and which olace of busi-
ness is known as Club Continental. The noise which emminates from
this olace. From time to time it is very armoying and d istrubs my
oeace. Altho i have made several appeals to the Police Department~
and also by letter to the former mayor~ it seems no action has been
taken to stoo this nuisance. I therefore~ am now making this appeal
to you~ trusting you will do everything you can to bring about a
solution to this oroblem in the future.

Motion was made by Mr. Woolbright~ seconded by Mr. Ross~ and un-
aminously carried that ~ne license of the Club Continental be
susoended unt_l the zmrst meeting of ~he C~ty Council in
19~9~ at which time this question may be reooened at the discretion
of the Co~cil.

Mr. Ross stated that the vo~mn~/~he recent orimary elec-
tion was so heavy that an additional voting orecinct was necessary
to relieve the congestion at the Shmffleboa~a Court orecmnct. Mr.
Woo!bright reco~ended that a "colored" voting orecinct be created
in colored town.
Following discussion by all Counci!men~ motion was made by Mr,
Woolbright~ seconded by Mr, Ross and unaminousl¥ carried that
an additional voting orecinct be created,

election board of the new precinct:
