Mayor Purinton phoned Mrs. Lauren Hand, school board reoresenting
Boynton on this. Following much discussion Commissioners Merkel and
Hood were asked to report back on this matter.
Ed Sherratt, editor of the local newspaper sopke for the American
Legion BasketbAll Team which needs help in financing their transporta-
tion to out of town A A U games. Commissioner Hood moved to give the
team $25 a day for expenses for each day played in the tournament for
a maximum of three days. Commissioner Shook seconded and the motion
was passed. The passing changed from a majority to a unanimous vote
when Commissioner Merkel (who had debated against certain phases of
this expenditure) voted "yes".
Ed Sherratt reported the results of an Athletic Committee which
is handling the city baseball team. He suggested periodic reports
from this group might held keep the Commission and the~opulous in-
formed of the team's activities and t~b~? increase inter'est. This
committee plans a "farm system" for tra~ning potential players, much
as is used in Big League Baseball. This would tie in with yomugsters
anticipating playing on the "varsity" when they grew up.
Chief Carver reminded the group the Fraternal Order of Police,
Wonder City Lodge, Number I (of Lake Worth) sponsers a boys' baseball
team for which Boynton Boys are eligible.
Request from Rathbun Hauling for a sign on the highway was denied
when all agreed there are too many signs now.
Mrs. ~dams appeared on two counts. One to ask if these over 6~
years should be eligible for tax exemption. The other about a ditch
on property recently sold by her to Oliver Fall~cinilli. Both matters
were tabled for further information.
Bedford Jones, Board of Health representative~ asked that easements
and alleys be cleaned.
Mr. Jones reported these cleaned up by John R~ulerson helped con-
siderably, but many more need attention at this time. Mr. Jones also
reported the city dump needs attention explaining its present contition
has caused a discontinuance of the mosquito spraying orogram.
Commissioner Hood reported upon the project to buy grader and
roller so the city might do much of its own work.
After hearing detailed descriptions of prices and specific equip-
ment each included, the group authorized Commissioner Hood to resume the
Job of "getting the needed equipment as soon and as quicEly as oossible".
Commissioner Shook was ~opointed to help on this.
