with Chariots of Love and Future 6, who once a month takes 50-75 kids with varying abilities out
surfing, providing two-four volunteers per child.

Mr. Majors spoke of the Galaxy Scrub Project, in partnership with School District of Palm Beach
County and the Sierra Club which teaches children about the environment. This challenging

D. Suicide Prevention/Awareness —Bench
2
Meeting Minutes Recreation and Parks Advisory Board
Boynton Beach, Florida March 25, 2019
Mr. Majors has been contacted by a non-profit that installs benches in parks and other high
pedestrian traffic areas providing awareness on teen suicides. An email was sent to members to
show what the benches look like. Mr. Majors and Chair Pierce-Roe encouraged suggestions for
bench locations for this important service, and will be discussed again next month.
Added Item: Pump House
Mr. Fagan spoke about a project to make the drab, mundane, little building at the inlet to make it
stand out and be a symbol for the town. Perhaps it could be a competition. Chair Pierce-Roe liked
the idea, maybe it could be a mural like the one at Oyer Park. Discussion ensued with various
ideas; Mr. Majors suggested Mr. Fagan send an email to the Board with his ideas so Mr. Majors
can begin to reach out to various contacts. It was agreed it would be an easy idea to get launched.
Added Item: Continuation of Galaxy Scrub Project
Mr. Kanter spoke about the Rosemary Scrub Project in the County; discussion followed with Mr.
Majors suggesting that perhaps it would be good to get an organization like the Sierra Club
involved and get some interest going for Quantum Park.
E. Parks Tour—Schedule
Mr. Majors talked about the upcoming Parks Tour on April 22nd at 6:00. The Board should take
the lead on what parks to visit. The following will be on the Schedule:
• Castle
• Quantum
• The Pool
• Forest Hills
• Pioneer Canal
VI. ITEMS FOR THE CITY MANAGER'S ATTENTION --None
VII. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on April 22, 2019, with the tour starting

Mr. Ammon commented on the Kids' Kingdom Castle, which was an emergency save, but more
needs to be done in terms of connecting the three sections. Mr. Majors said he would talk to Mike
that he take the lead to complete the project. Also, Mr. Ammon wondered what the process is for
the community to donate and install picnic tables; Mr. Majors said the RPB would have to see
what is being planned and then the installation can be approved.
Chair Pierce-Roe asked if the lights are operational in Oyer Park; Mr. Majors was told that they
were done, but asked to be contacted if they are not on.
