January 10 minutes The minutes were not available. Meeting Minutes Arts Commission Boynton each, FL February 14, 2019 Motion Ms. Zell moved to approve. Ms. Oyer seconded the motion with the condition there is some type of title on the book so it looks like a finished product. Chair McQuire liked the concept, but thought it looked dated in terms of style. He thought it was probably the intention of the artist, but the packman image on one of the other renderings had a more stylish. Ms. Moodie liked the idea as she passes by the building often. She liked the concept and the idea of a title on the book. She liked that it portrays diversity and has a multi-cultural feel. It is a building for children and it would appeal to someone who is looking for something for children. She would vote for the idea as presented knowing it is only conceptual and the final product would have more details. Vote The motion failed 2-3 (Chair McQuire, Ms. Moodie, and Ms. Zell dissenting.) Motion Ms. Moodie moved to approve the conceptual presentation for this business and move forward with it. Ms. Zell seconded the motion that passed 3-2, (Ms. Oyer and Ms. Lorenz dissenting.) B. New Fire Station Local Emerging Artists public art RFQ selection (Saddam Silverio arrived at 6:51 p.m.) Ms. Coles-Dobay explained that as part of the Local Emerging Artist program, the City issued a general Call to Artists requesting they submit information to determine if they could be a candidate for the different public art projects for the Town Square. She distributed a document to the members that contained contact information, their websites, biographies and a brief statement of interest for the program. They were then requested to discuss their medium, how long they worked professionally as an artist and to provide three past projects they completed and to give a short commentary on them. A total of 17 artists submitted information to the Arts Commission. Ms. Coles-Dobay then sent a call to Artists specific to the Fire Station. It was a full complete call to artists. Out of 17 artists, 6 submitted proposals. All they had to do is answer three different questions. Ms. Coles-Dobay provided the members with a score sheet. The members will review the application submissions and rank them 1 to 5, with one being the best and five being the worst. The members were to rank the artists on the following: did the artist bio clearly capture their artistic goals and achievements; did the artist convey a compelling reason why they were interested in the emerging artists program; on the past three project examples, does the artist have strong conceptual skills. Ms. Coles-Dobay had images of the artwork they submitted. 3 Meeting Minutes Arts Commission Boynton Beach, FIL February 14, 2019 There was a survey taken and the results were included. The Otocast and Augmented Reality features are continued. Ms. Coles-Dobay reviewed the following: • Jan. 16-20 Kinetic Art booth at Art Palm each • Opening Reception • Outdoor, Indoor Art Experiences • Attendance • Volunteers • Artists • Artists Reception • Event logistics • Visitors Experience There was some great feedback. The event was well attended and had a higher attendance than in the past. The volunteers were great. Ms. Coles-Dobay reviewed the suggestions made, which noted only four pieces of artwork sold. The sales are not over, as the Arts Commission is continuing to promote art to developers and others. Moving forward, a suggestion was made to have a committee focusing on the artwork sales. It is about finding the collectors, buyers and relationship building. The Arts Commission had quite a good list of collectors and buyers. The purpose of the opening reception is to get them to attend with the volunteers and artists to attend as a first preview. It was interesting to see many RSVP'd but not many showed up. Ms. Coles-Dobay did not know if it was due to the rain. Weather could have been a factor. Saturday was forecast to be raining, but they had great weather both days. 5 Meeting Minutes Arts Commission Boynton Beach, FL February 14, 2019 Chair McQuire commented he worked Art Palm Beach and Art Palm each, before the playoff game, was packed. Women will come to an art show and the men will stay home and watch the Super Bowl. This event is different as kinetic art also appeals to men. The game was at 6 p.m. so there was plenty of time. Ms. Moodie explained there was one lady who was very upset as she drove all over. Someone else came in and did not have an exact address where to go. The "Save the Date" had contact information, but the places listed were not open on those days. Another comment was a friend of Ms. Oyer's entered the address to the event in GPS and it sent him to Broward County. Ms. Oyer liked the comments and hoped as more were received, they would be shared. Ms. Moodie and the members praised Ms. Coles-Dobay for her vision and leadership.
