Minutes 06-03-19 MINUTES OF THE SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING HELD AT THE INTRACOASTAL PARK CLUBHOUSE 2240 N. FEDERAL HIGHWAY, BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, ON MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2019, AT 2:00 P.M. PRESENT: Terry liames, Vice Chair Brent Rolle, Board Liaison Judy Lyman Lawrence Siegel Jennifer Gomez Alison Black ABSENT: Margaret Newton I. Call to Order Vice Chair liames called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. II. Pledge to the Flag The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. III. Roll Call Roll call established a quorum was present. IV. Agenda Approval Vice Chair liames announced she did not get the agenda to Mr. Rolle in time and there was no quorum at the last meeting. V. Unfinished business. Vice Chair liames asked if the members contacted any of the senior communities. She had called three. Mr. Siegel also reported he did not receive any responses. Vice Chair liames thought it may be helpful to get in touch with the Lion's Club as a place to start. She had spoken with Leisureville and a community on Federal Highway and they do not call back. She thought the communities think the Board is soliciting. Mr. Siegal agreed and thought there was some general confusion because most communities were handled by management companies, and they only look at the business of administering to what they need to do with the community may not fall within their purview. The Board was trying to solicit input from the different communities, to assist them, and receive input about what they can do for seniors. Ms. Lyman, who is from Hunters Run, commented they have various special interest groups. Vice Chair liames thought they could meet and speak with them. Ms. Gomez had contact information on various other communities and homeowner associations, and noted there are many seniors living in all City neighborhoods. Vice Chair liames asked if any of the members knew of anyone in the Lions Club or others. She requested the members contemplate thinking of one neighborhood to go to and speak with them. Mr. Siegal agreed to speak to seniors at different centers and commented he has several programs at the Weissman Center and JCC for their seniors and he would speak with them as well. Vice Chair liames asked if anyone was interested in speaking at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles on Federal She asked for suggestions on how to obtain community input on how the Board can assist Seniors. Jennifer can the Board put something on the Park and Rec sites. Brent would give a contact person,which was Eleanor Krusell. Vice Chair asked if all took the Ethics Training. VI. New Business New member Judy Lyman introduced herself. She lives in Hunters Run and has been their Government Relations person for three years. She also campaigned for the Mayor and Vice Mayor. She likes being involved in things that help her community. She worked in health and secretarial services, has written grants and worked with insurance and 501 (c) 3 organizations. She noted Boynton Beach is growing with the new Town Square and it will be a wonderful town. She is good at fundraising. Alison Black explained she is a Care Manager at a health care agency caring for seniors Jennifer Gomez is an attorney handling estate planning, probate and asset protection. She works with many seniors in the community. Larry Siegel is an educator and clinical sexologist working with seniors. Vice Chair liames has a Home Health Care Agency in Boynton Beach. She was born and raised in Boynton Beach. Thursday, September 19th is the next health Fair. Mr. Rolle will email the statistics from the last health fair to the members. He reported the Fair went very well. Vice Chair liames asked if they received any feedback from the City, or if there was anything the Senior Advisory Board could hand out, but Mr. Rolle was not aware of anything. He also had not heard anything about Healthier Boynton Beach. 2 Meeting Minutes Senior Advisory Board Boynton Beach. Florida June 3, 2019 Ms. Black asked if community agencies could attend the Senior Health Fair to inform residents about services offered and learned they could. Mr. Rolle explained that was what the Fair was all about. Anyone interested in participating should contact Mr. Rolle about the process. Vendors have to pay for a table and it is first come, first served. The fee depends on if the organization is for profit or non-profit. For example, the United Way is either $60, $90 or $100. The Board will meet in August. Vice Chair liames wanted to put together a brochure and invited the members to sit at the table to hand it out. Mr. Rolle explained the Board meets every three months. The next meeting will be the first Monday of the month, but due to Labor Day, the meeting will be on September 9th. Vice Chair asked if any information was received about home health grants from Healthier Boynton Beach. Mr. Siegel inquired if the Board could use City resources to see what grants are available. Ms. Lyman had spoken with Debbie Majors, ADA and Grants Coordinator, about the same thing was told the City is very busy handling ADA requirements and then will return to grants. Mr. Siegel suggested getting access to the available grant list, and working on it independently. Vice Chair liames asked if anyone wanted to be the Chair of the Board and commented she would continue on as Vice Chair of the Board until someone wanted to serve as Chair. She would also speak with "Tony' and see if Ms. Newton was interested in the position of the Chair. Ms. Lyman announced she is working with the builder of Courtyard Gardens Senior Center on Congress Avenue and she may be able to get some items from him as he is trying to publicize the facility. Vice Chair liames thought he may interested in serving on the Board. Ms. Lyman was aware the owner has two sons in the business and has an Executive Director. VII. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Siegel moved to adjourn. Ms. Gomez seconded the motion. The motion unanimously passed.
