VI. New Business
A. Approval of Minutes of October 24, 2019
Francoise Calixte-Dieuvil noted a typo in the spelling of her last name. Ms. Claude noted
at the bottom of page one, speaking about Vice Chair Murphy being a lifelong resident of
the City, the sentence should read "S-he-He works with the school district . . .," and the
last paragraph and last sentence, should read Ms. Claude will send out an email indicating
the hours that volunteers are needed for . . . she cautioned due to the Sunshine Law,
they should not have co reply all.
Motion
Ms. Wilkinson moved to approve the minutes as amended for October 24, 2019. Ms.
Gadson seconded the motion. The motion unanimously passed.
B. Bob Borovy Student Citizen of the Year Award
Ms. Claude advised the award application is on the website. Students can go to City's
website and upload the documents. She requested the members think about who would
serve as judges, noting there are usually three judges including last year's award winner.
Last year, Kevin Homer of Boynton Cares and Jeanne Heavilin from Sister Cities judged.
A judge could also be a resident. Ms. Claude will send a letter to high school guidance
counsellors in January so they could make the students aware of the award. The Board
could also create a flyer if desired. Ms. Claude requested the members let her know of
anyone they could think of that would be willing to serve as a judge. The deadline is
March 31St
VII. Old Business
A. Outreach
Vice Chair Murphy commented there had been discussion at the last meeting about
outreach and the members attending School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings to
promote the Education and Youth Advisory Board. He acquired the information, but did
not forward it to Ms. Claude. He agreed to do so before the January meeting so it could
be put on the agenda. If anyone else has information about other organizations or
meetings that are educationally or youth related the members could make a presentation
to in order to get the Board's name out there, to let the Board know. It was important the
public knows that the Board is active and is trying to assist the community. Members can
forward the information to Ms. Claude or bring it to the January meeting.

B. Fundraising
At the last meeting, the Board discussed fundraising at the Holiday Parade, which did not
come to fruition this year. Members were encouraged to bring fundraising ideas to the
January meeting to discuss. In the past, the Board held a Pound class event, similar to
a Zumba class. The Board has learned over the last few years, to have small concise
fundraising events lasting a few hours. They started to plan a breakfast, but it was difficult
to plan because of the Sunshine Laws and they could only plan the event at the meetings.
The Board has also held Shred-a-Thons. They held cookie sales at the beach, and sold
chips and sodas and water at the holiday parade and other City events. The activities
get the Board's name out there, but the events do not make a lot of money. Ms. Wilkinson
offered to ask about another exercise class, which did result in making $400 or $500.
They only need 25 people to hold the event, and she could see if the instructors would
donate their time, it is an easy event. They also held a raffle at the Pound event and held
a social cocktail hour at Blue Martini. The latter event raised $500 or $600 dollars and
turned out well. Ms. Wilkinson agreed to check with the Pound instructors. A suggestion
was made to create a website to donate and help with events. Ms. Wilkinson is involved
in Artigras in Jupiter. Artigras is a juried art festival. The last she heard, the organizers
were looking for people to sell soda. They need four people at the soda booth for the
entire two days of the event, which would be held on President's Day weekend and they
will pay$500. Ms. Wilkinson agreed I find out if they still needed people to man the booth.
They need five people for four shifts and the shifts are four and five hours. The organizers
are looking for non-profits. Ms. Wilkinson agreed to send Sherri the information.
Members were asked to bring suggestions to the next meeting.
C. Grants
Vice Chair Murphy noted Dr. North has access to the City's Grants Coordinator. He had
no information to report.
VIII. Future Meeting Dates: January 23, 2020
February 27, 2020
IX. Adjournment
Motion
Ms. Wilkinson moved to adjourn. Ms. Gadson seconded the motion. The motion
unanimously passed. The meeting was adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
