VII. Old Business
a. Outreach
Chair North was trying to make a presentation and had made a presentation at Freedom
Shores Elementary School. If anyone had a school they wanted her to visit, Chair North
requested they let her know. She was trying to get the Board's name out there and
partner, specifically if they are fundraising.
b. Fundraising
Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil recalled they had discussed fundraising at the last meeting. Ms.
Wilkinson explained the information she has is whether the members want to serve soda
at an ArtiGras event. She contacted the Chamber of Commerce and the ArtiGras event
will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th. If the members want to
participate to use it as a fundraiser and the opportunity is still available, she will sign them
up for it. She reminded the members they will need to stay for a number of hours and
they need a number of people. The event is in Jupiter in Abacoa. It is a juried art show
and they have a Pepsi truck there. They just need people. There are four different trucks
at the event and the Girl Scouts do a number of them, and she was not sure the
opportunity would still be available. There is no charge to volunteer. There are tickets to
see the art show, but not for volunteering. They would volunteer to hand out soda and at
the end of the day they would receive a check for$500. Additionally, the members would
get to keep the tips received. Ms. Wilkinson would talk to the Chamber and send the
information to Ms. Claude for her to email the members. The truck must be manned the
whole time. She thought the hours would be noon to 5:00 p.m. both days.
Vice Chair Murphy noted the members were asked to bring ideas for fundraising to the
meeting. He commented he participated, with another group, the Dine to Donate at Texas
Roadhouse. On a designated Monday or a Thursday, all who come in and says they are
with the Education and Youth Advisory Board, would have 10% of their bill dedicated to
the Board. If selecting two days, the Board would receive 15% of the total bill. The
Scholarship Team at his church fundraised this way. They reserved two days and
received a nice amount for the scholarship. Vice Chair Murphy had the contact
information. Once the Board picks a date, they create flyers and distribute them. The
establishment also writes the name of the organization on the Board. At the end of the
night, they receive a money order, no cash outlay needed. Texas Roadhouse does it, as
does Chick-fil-A, Chili's and others. Vice Chair Murphy explained the first day of their
fundraiser, they had 200 people show up. Chair North liked the idea. Vice Chair Murphy
suggested picking four days: a day in March and April, or one in February and one in
March. The members selected their dates. Vice Chair Murphy will check with the
restaurant and report at the next meeting.
