WHERE~ in the interest of lessening the danger to life and
~roperty from the hazards of fire, the CityCo'~ucil of the City
of Eoynton Beach deems it necessary and desirable to amend the
~rovisions of the Fire Prevention Code heretofore adopted by the
~ity of Boyn~on Beach with regard to the provisions relating to
~utomatic sprinkler systems~ now, therefore,
BE IT 0RDAI~ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
BF~&CH ~ FLORIDA:
Section l~ Section 1R-1 of the Codified 0rdinm~ces of the
~ity of Boynton Beach: Florida, be and is hereby amended to read

Section i2-!. National Fire Code - Adoption.
?here is hereby adopted by the city for the
purpose of prescrib~ug regulations governing con-
ditions b~zardous to life and property from fire
or explosion, that certain code known as the
National: Fire Code recomended by the National Fire
Protection Association, including all revisions
thereof made from time to time, save ~ud except
such portions as are hereinafter deleted~ modified
or ~mended~ of which code not less th~u three
c~nies have been ~ud are now filed in the office
of the clerk of the city and same are hereby adop~
ted ~nd incorporated as fully as if the same were
set out at length herein~ and from the date on
which this article shall take effect~ the provisions
thereof Shall be Controlling Within the limits of
the city."
Section R. Chapter 12 of the Codified Ordinances of the City
of Boynton Beach, Florida, be ~ud is hereby amended by adding
t~ere as Section 12-1.1 which reads as follows:

Approved automatic fire sprinkler systems as
hereinafter defined shall be installed throughout
the following buildings and structures or
priate sections thereof:
The following buildings of an institutional
character: Hospitals, nursing homes, homes
for t~e ag~d~ convalescent centers, jails
~nd oenal institutions nur '

children which are bedridden and
p~ueles ~nd uses of similar nature to those
herein stated, ~rithout regard to the type of
const~0.ction or height of the building or
structure ~nvolved.
The following buildings devoted t*.residential
use or occupancy: Apartment buildinEs~ hotels~
motels~ boarding houses, condominiums, rooming
houses~ dormitories ~nd orphanages subject to
the following exceptions based upon type of
construction and height of structure:
All wood frame buildings ~ud structures
which are two stories or less in height
provided they do not exceed 20 feet in
height.
All buildings ~d st~ctures of a
non~wood frame~ non-combustible type
of conetruction~ which are four stories
or less in height provided they do not
exceed 40 feet in height.
All other occupancies: All buildings ~nd strut.
~ures without regard to the type of construction
which are used or occupied for purposes other
than institutional or residential use as above
defined shall have automatic fire sprinkler
systems subject to the following exceptions
based upon building area ~nd height:
All buildings and structures which are
four stories or less in height provided
they do not exceed 40 feet in height
and provided the gross square foot floor
area of ~my one Floor does not exceed
30,000 square feet.
Below grade occupancies: All portions or sec~
tions of build~ngs and structures which are
below grade or which constitutes the basement
area of a building or structure shall have
automatic fire sprinkler systems~ regardless
of square footage of floor area or type of
construction.
The automatic fire sprinkler systems herein referred
to and the inst~llation thereof which is required by
this ordinance shall all he ms contained in and pro-
vided for accord~ug to the current edition of the
National Fire Protection Association Standard Nco 13
~utitled~ ~Standards for the Installation of Sprinkler
Systems ~ ~"
Se?~ion 3~ Authority ~o Codify:. Specific authority is
hereby granted to codify and incorporate this 0rdina~.ce in the
City's ~xist~ug Code~
Se~ 9tic? 4: ~eparability: F~ch of the provisions of this
Ordinance are separable, including word, clauses phrase or sent-
ence~ and if any portion thereof shall be declared invalid~ the
remaining portion

An Effective Date:. This Ordinance shall ~ecome
