This Soecial meeting of the Planning & Zoning Board was called to order
at 7:3J~ P.M. by Chairman Wohlleb.
PUBLICi HE~RING:
To consider abandonment of that portion of S.E. 1st
Avenue lying between U.S. Highway #1 and $.E. ~th
Street, Boynton Beach, Florida, according to the Plat
thereof recorded in Plat Book I~ Page 23: Palm Beach
County Records.
Requested by: Robert D. Rapaport, dba Holiday Builders, Inc.
Mr. Rapaport came forward to speak in favor of this request. He stated
that in order to get the needed ground to complete tentative plans for a
motel the abandonment of the above described property is necessary. Mr.
Rapaport stated that at the present time they have under contract the
purchase of a number of lots surrounding this particular street and
bordering on it..Mr. Rapaport stated there would be an access road, but
that it would be a private road. Also that from the tentativ~ plans,
all set backs appear to be met. An artist's rendering of the plans
presented to the Board and it ~%s stated that the cost would be slightly
less than $1 million, which includes a first quality restaurant and a
number of other unusual features.
PM. Wohlleb read letters stating there were no objections to this request
from Ird.et Vistas, Inc. and Florida Public Utilities. The city engineer
had v~itten a letter stating he would not object if certain requirements
were met.
A discussion followed as to the availability of water and sewer facilities
to the existing buildings and proposed buildings.
~r. Wo?~leh asked if there was s~yone to oppose this request. Mr. Hank
Hanson, a ~?¢presentative of Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Co., came
forward and read a letter from the phone company's district engineer
ob jectir4~ to th~s s~bandonment because they have t~.o buried cables .in this
area and there is now workh~g services in the area. Mr. Hanson stated
that if th~s were developed as a unit, the Telephone Company could work
this out, but based on what they know now they have to object~ He
suggested that someone get with their engineer and work something out.
Mr. Wertz made a motion that the request be given approval providing that
the utility problems can be worked out~%o th~ satisfactio~ Of all~ilities
concerued and the petitioner; also that all the property which is under
contract be actually acquired and closed on before abandor~ent of the
described property. Mr. Patrick seconded and it was unanimously carried.
