She advised they were successful. There were about 115 people sign up and run, so good funds were raised for the Congress Avenue Barrier Free event. Dr. Hayden-Adeyemo advised she attended and provided some information to one or two of the vendors to partner with other resources. Chair Valcourt thanked all who participated. Vice Chair Wilkinson announced thee is an election on March 8th There are two City Commission seats open and the Mayor seat is open. She urged all to vote and spread the word. VI. Public Audience Ernest Mignoli 710 N 7th Street, Unit 407, stated his community used to be a nice family community with two buildings also accommodating the handicapped and seniors. He announced now it is a drug den, there is child endangerment, people are calling the police all the time for teenagers being brought to the buildings at night with adults. There are shootings all the time and there are live and dead bodies lying all around the property and they cannot get the police to patrol. He commented he lives in a school district and there are a lot of other school districts like that around here such as 132 NE 10th in the IV District. He commented if you look at the history of what goes on in that building for the last five years and there are all children and schools around there and go to the Code Magistrate who talks about crime, code violations and dangers for children in the building, it is frightening what children are exposed to there. He decided to take it on since he is a former university and college professor to really care about he children, and walk and go places and feel safe in school, but he is finding out a lot of political, ethnic, bias, partisan things being told to the kids, erroneous lifestyle talk, prejudice and anti- religious stuff being told to the kids which he documents. Then he has to deal with a group of Commissioners, and after all this is happening, they are having a K-9 event for Florida at Boynton Beach High School. He asked if it was a nice thing to have with the event in the national news, they are celebrating the Boynton Beach K-9 at the Boynton Beach High School in March with the Florida Highway Patrol K-9 who is investigating the case of 12/26/21 and there is a Commissioner running for Mayor who has it posted, if he becomes Mayor, he is supported by the Police, Fire, teachers and City officials. He asserted it is not a fair election and they cannot stop it. He thought it was a shame what is going in and around the school when you cannot walk and it is dangerous. He has films of little kids, even with police here, and cars flying through the intersection that is painted. Then they allow certain people to have a motorcycle with license plates parked in front of City Hall at the front door and then get on it and drive it with little kids walking around the building to the Library. He commented he has 10 incidents, and the person who is doing it, is doing it in front of the police and the people doing it do not look anything like SJ. VII. New Business 2 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida February 24, 2022 A. Approval of Minutes of January 27, 2022 Motion Vice Chair Wilkinson moved to approve. Mr. Patterson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VIII. Old Business A. Fundraising Chair Valcourt noted they are having a fundraising event this Saturday at the Black History event, where they will be hosting a concession stands with left over snacks from the parade. When they meet on Saturday, the table and tent will be provided, and the Board has to discuss who will purchase the snacks. There is 73 bags of varying chips and 27 juices. They sold them all for one dollar. When they did it at the holiday parade, they had water as well, but there is none left. Someone will have to provide it. Someone will need to bring petty cash and someone else will purchase snacks in the amount they think they will need. They can get reimbursed and Ms. Claude could provide the tax- exempt certificate. Mr. Patterson has a Costco card and can buy the chips, water, and juice. (Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil left the dais at 6:27 p.m.) Dr. Hayden-Adeyemo inquired if Mr. Patterson could drop it off at a central location to be stored and learned they could drop it off at one of the centers. There is an A.M. event at the Sims Center. Mr. Patterson commented he would go to Costco after the meeting. The sims center is open until 8 p.m. its 225 NE 12th Avenue. Vice Chair Wilkinson suggested getting 100 bags of chips, a couple cases of water and perhaps more juice. It is a fairly big event and usually well attended. There are 20 vendors and 26 performers. It was noted the purchase cannot exceed $272 in the budget so expenses cannot exceed that amount. If the event was similar to the prior MLK event, the food trucks were set up in the parking lot along the street. Dr. Hayden-Adeyemo commented when they have vendors, there are long lines and they hope they would have a great spot, where attendees would walk by them first. Ms. DeGraffenreidt is setting up the event. At the last event, vendors and tables and tents were in the lawn area and trucks on the road. Purchase 100 chips or two Costco boxes of 50 variety pack chips, about three to five juice packs and 100 to 150 waters. Vice Chair Wilkinson suggested five cases of water, a little more juice and a bit more in the chip realm. There was discussion, just sell water and sell out the chips they have. Mr. Lazo noted the Carolyn Sims Center is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Center is near Sara Sims Park. He suggested dropping off the chips and water and they will send an email about the delivery ahead of time. 3 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida February 24, 2022 (Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil returned to the dais at 6:30 p.m.) Dr. Hayden-Adeyemo advised she will bring petty cash. (Dr. Hayden-Adeyemo left the meeting at 6:30 p.m.) Vice Chair Wilkinson advised she spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Gold Coast Knights, and they are okay with splitting the shifts. Vice Chair Wilkinson's husband will put together the schedule of how many shifts there are to turn it into a percentage. SunFest pays the booth either per beer poured if draft beer, or by can or bottle sold. The groups there get to keep the tips. She advised it can be very lucrative. They will need friends and family to help with the event. Volunteers have to be 21 years old. If the members can get two or three people each to help, now that the SunFest lineup is out, volunteers can schedule a shift on the day and time the performer they like is playing. It is an easy way to make some money. The event is Thursday April 28 through Sun May 1st. Thursday the 16th hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and it is one shift. Friday the hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. She advised volunteers can get a break. Saturday's shifts were noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday noon to 9 p.m. There are three shifts on Saturday and Sunday . Thursday and Friday only have the one shift. Vice Chair Wilkinson stated she can send a link and put it out on her Facebook. They can tell people the dates and a link they can find out what shift they want to volunteer for. The deadline to sign up is right up until it starts. The people who volunteer do not have to be a board member, but can volunteer on behalf of the Board. Vice Chair Wilkinson thought out of all the shifts in total (8) that is probably 75 people. Dr. Valcourt will put the word out. The carrot to attract volunteers is a free ticket worth $75. There may not be a parking pass, but they have a shuttle. In the past, the Kiwanis Club has given a $5 stipend to offset parking cost. They will give you a shirt, a shuttle, reimburse $5 for parking and the Board will benefit. Chair Valcourt will get people to participate. It was noted there are other jobs available. B. Outreach C. Bob Borovy Student Citizen of the Year Award Ms. Claude inquired if the Board had any preferences or if someone would be interested in judging. Last year there were two different school district employees. The application is online and can be emailed. Board members cannot serve as judges. Traditionally, the last year's winner also served as a judge. Ms. Claude will reach out to those individuals to judge IX.
