~'~r. McDormld called the -~-eetin~ to order at 7.45 P.~f. and said its
purpose was to get the press together and tell them of the plans which the
Planning Board have been trying to make regarding the widenir~ of the Federal

~ha~well and ?r. NYquist reported having contacted the State Road
Department at Fort Lauderdale and obtained photographs of the new boulevard
recently constructed throu&h Fort Lauderdaie, before and after completion,
for comparison w' ~
those present. ~t.~$ur present high. way, and these were passed aro~d amor~
They euoted the State Road Depa~ment as emphasizing the
importance of a w~dened highway to the City of Boynton.
Mr. Xoepnick said the reason the Federal Gover~ent is wil!i~ to give
aid to the const~ction of such highways is that they will be taken over by
the ~litary in case of emergency.
It w%s stated that the widened hi,away thro~h Boynton would cost app~i-
~ate!y ~t~ million for the three and a half miles~ but would cost the City
absolutely nothing.
During the long and detailed discussion v~ich followed it was pointed
out that the gro%~th of the~City is to the North so that the center of tovm
will tend gradually to move in that direction, and the lis ft. highway ~1!
become more and more advisable~ that it may hurt some people now, but others
wit! benefit later. ~
