Joseph Todd~ The meeting was called to order at 8°00 Po3~i. by ~r. ~cDonaldo ~%~rs~ Ann Barrett read the minutes of the last meeting. ~r~ Chadwell said the ~oolbright Road people wanted it ~t;idened to 1E0 feet and not ~0 feet. The minutes were approved with the above amendment. ~rso Ar~u Barrett staid the alley between the service station and her office should be opened up, otherwise it could become a fire hazard~ ~r~ ~yquist reDorted that the Council wanted the ~lanning Board to get together v~th the Real Estate people reg2rding signs on the highway~ ~rSo Ann Barrett suggested writing to the Council at ~J~iami Beach for a copy of their 0rdinance. ~?r, ~J~cDonzld and 3~r~ Chadwell reported on the general meeting at the Legion Hall on ~onday evening called for discussion on the proposed width of ll6 feet for the highway~ They said a shorting of hands called for indicated a desire for a 100 fto highway through Boynton Beach, adding that it was evident that the opposition were well versed in argt~ments sufficiently weighty to sway the people present, ~r~ Nyquist said the wrong thing ~s that the property ov.~ers were told that they ~ould have to ~ the land. ~r~ ~cDonald suggested that after this week meetings should be called for~ say, ~lternate ~onda~y evenings so that a factual ~tudy of the question can be ~ade and arguments worked out to be used in rebuttal, and letters drsfted to various neighboring Chambers of Commerce asking for information on aoy similar circ~_~stances in their co~_Eunities. ~r~ Chadwel! thought the property ov~ers concerned on the highway should be approached individually with a view to g~e~ting commitments which can be presented to the Co~missioners~ that comparatively few peop!~ object and they should not be allowed to block the scheme~ ~r~ ~icDonald said if the Planning Board ~-ishes to continue the str~ggle to get the !18 ft. highway~ it should make the effort no~J or nothing w~ll be done. He suggested a referendum vote of the townspeople, and thought the question might be put on the ballot at our next election to see if the register~d voters would favor such a h~ghway~ ~ During a long discussion on the proposed island., for the highway, ~ro Nyquist said he would go to Fort Lauderdale to find out what has been done there in this connection° ,~ It was agreed that the Planning Board will c$ntinue to work for the 1 t6 ft. hi ghway ~ ifro Todd thought that any proposed, highway improvement should include a revision of the present buildir~ code, After discussion l~r, Todd was appointed a Committee of one to examine the building code &nd appropriate ordinances, and to write out such changes and amendments as appeared to him advisable. His survey, on completion, will be examined by the Board at one of its meetings, After which the new t~ilding Inspector will be called in and asked for his ideas and suggestions~ The whole recommendation will then be submitted to the Council~ ~gr~ Todd was told that he can at any time call on other members of the Board for help if he requires it, ~%rs. Ann Barrett said that trailers should be forbidden even if merely parked on owner's property and not lived in. The other members of the Board agreed. Ero Chadwell proposed the followdng Resolution to be s~$mitted to the Council: That the deplorable conditior~ at present existing on Twelfth and Thirteenth Avenues in colored to~n~, and the roads leading to and from the school there, should be remedied as soon as possible~ That these roads have deep holes in them in ~%~hich stagnant v~ter re~ains for days at a time, such conditions being not only da.~gerous but unsanitary. ~rs. Ann Barrett seconded, and the Resolution v~s carried. There being no further business, Mr. Todd moved that the meeting adjourn, to meet again on Tuesday evening, October ~r.
