Minutes 08-31-54PLANNING BOARD MEETING OF AUGUST 31st, 1954: PRESENT: Ann Barrett, L. S. Chadweil, Allen Nyquist, Robert__ McDonald and Fred Koepnick. Mr. McDonald called the meeting to order at 8:10 P. M. ~nn Barrett spoke of the importance of our city having a better homes section, off of the main thoroughfare. We should try to keep our city attractive and plan for the future. Also, we should give some thought on how we can beautify our highway and keep buildings back. Ann Barrett and Fred Keopnick said ~they will contact Mr. Bob-Rose about a better homes section being built on South Green street where Mr. Rose owns some acreage. The discussion of sidewalks came up and ~llen Nyquist spoke of the importance sidewalks wou!~ be to our future. If our city continues to grow at its present rate in 20 years they will be a necessity. In all future subdivisions thedeveloper should out in sidewalks. They can also be a bond issue but it is important that they be uniform and not end in the middle of a block. Mr. McDonald said that he will check with Mr. J. Cato, chairman of the planning board of West Palm B~ach, and ask if our board can attend their meetings. Mr. Allen Nyquist made a motion that the Planning Board recommend to the city commissioners that they acquire 120 ft. right of way along the entire length of U.~. #1 from the horth to the south boundary of Boynton Beach which will provide for s parkway with cut £n left tUrns at inter- sections, and if this is acquired, it will eliminate a parking problem and also get us ma~ximumFederal aid. Mr. Chadwell seconded the motion; all in favor. This parkway would beautify our city as well as nrovide for parking space. The electric poles would be in the center of the p'arkwywith lights extending out to both sides. It would also eliminate a safety hamard for cars coming onto the highway. Ann Barrett received a letter from Mr. Riddle who made the maps of our city in the hast. He is on his vacation at the present time but when he returns Mrs.~R.~ will contact .him about our need of sedtion maps. On Friday, Sent. 3rd, 1955 permission has been given to the National Airlines to land their helicopter at Pence Park in Boynton Beach and also to discuss future Helioport service~ Members of the city council and planning board are invited to go for a helicopter ride. InVitations to neighboring officials and members of various organizations have been give~ Mr. McDonald will contact the high schbol band to play and march to Pence Park from the center of town. There was a discussion of secbions in onr city that would be~suitable for s Helioport. To get helic~?V~service for our city can be a oroEressive steo, if we can find an adequate sp®t for it. ~ Ann~Barrett and Mr. Koepnick recommended that real estate signs be eliminated entirely in Boynton N. each. a property owner can advertise his own property With "see your Broker" included on sign. Delray Beach has an Ordinance that controls signs in their city and Miss Barrett and Mr. -2- Koepnick will get a copy of this Ordinance for our own perusal~ which will be read and discussed at the next meeting.
