Minutes 06-23-22 MINUTES OF THE EDUCATION AND YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD MEETING HELD ON JUNE 23, 2022, AT 6 P.M., AT CITY HALL COMMISSION CHAMBERS 100 E. OCEAN AVENUE, BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA Present: Dr. Valerie Valcourt, Chair Sherri Claude, Board Liaison Francoise Calixte-Dieuvil Frando Patterson Chevette Gadson Absent: Lori Wilkinson Jessica Wilkinson Nicole Prado Tarynnicole Rhodes I. Call to Order Dr. Valerie Valcourt, Chair, called the meeting to Order at 6:10 P.M. II. Pledge of Allegiance The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. III. Roll Call A quorum was present. IV. Approval of Agenda Motion Mr. Patterson moved to approve the agenda as written. Ms. Gadson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. V. Announcements/Presentations/Correspondence Chair Valcourt announced that the Board made $357 for working at SunFest, and they now have $729 in total. VI. Public Audience None VII. New Business A. Approval of Minutes of April 21, 2022 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida June 23, 2022 Motion Mr. Patterson moved to approve the minutes as written. Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VIII. Old Business A. Selection of Vice Chair (tabled on 4/21/22) Chair Valcourt asked if the Board's recommendation for Board Chair was ratified by the City Commission. Ms. Claude responded that the Board Chair and Vice Chair was presented in one agenda item and nothing was approved. She stated that she will put together another agenda item, but the members can continue and elect a Vice Chair now, or table it to the next meeting. Chair Valcourt advised that Lori Wilkinson had indicated that was still willing to serve as Vice Chair. Motion Mr. Patterson moved to remove the item from the table. Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Motion Mr. Patterson moved to nominate Lori Wilkinson as Vice Chair. Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. B. Fundraising Chair Valcourt reiterated that the Board earned about $350 for the time that some of the members spent working at SunFest, and she was unsure if there were any upcoming events at which they could fundraise. Ms. Claude explained that the City's 4th of July event would have vendors, but she agreed to find out if they could fundraise there. Chair Valcourt advised that the Board can revisit this and brainstorm in the meanwhile. She noted that October is approaching and the members should start planning for the pumpkin carving and gingerbread house events and that they can also consider continuing fundraisers they have already held with lessons learned, or try something new. She requested that this item be placed on the next agenda. C. Outreach 2 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida June 23, 2022 Chair Valcourt stated that the Board had previously discussed inviting Erica Whitfield, School Board Representative, to a meeting to discuss what support they can provide to Boynton Schools. She said that she will appraise the Board when Ms. Whitfield would attend. D. Bob Borovy Student Citizen of the Year Award Chair Valcourt announced that they were not issuing the award this year because they were still raising funds and the funds earned will be applied to next year's award. She stated that she thought the key is to have a Sinking Fund where they are continuously drawing from, in order to support students. IX. Future Meeting Dates: July 28, 2022 August 25, 2022 The future meeting dates were announced. Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil announced that she would not be attending the July meeting. X. Adjournment Motion There being no further business, Ms. Gadson moved to adjourn. Ms. Calixte-Dieuvil seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
