88-XXXRESOLUTION NO. 88- XXX A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, NOTIFYING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA THAT THE CITY COMMISSION IS IN FAVOR OF A NEW CRIMINAL STATUTE MANDATING THE IMPOSITION OF THE DEATH PENALTY AS TO PERSONS CONVICTED OF KILLING A POLICE OFFICER WHILE IN THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. It is the consensus of the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida that in order to combat the ever rising increase in crime and homicide of police officers killed in the performance of their duties, a mandatory death penalty in such cases be authorized by Florida Statute. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida hereby requests the Legislature of the State of Florida to proceed to implement such laws as are required to require the man- datory death sentence if the victim was a law enforcement officer engaged in the performance of his official duties. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to forward copies of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation to the State of Florida, to the Attorney General of the State of Florida, and to the Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Florida State Senate. Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, FL. PASSED AND ADOPTED this y~-~Z)t day of M~Vp~e_~/x,, 1988.
