A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE RENAMING OF
PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AFTER
CAPTAIN DAVID McCAMPBELL; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida recognizes that Captain David McCampbell is a
true World War II hero, having been awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor by the President of the United
States "for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the
risk of his life, above and beyond the call of duty," and
WHE~AS, Captain McCampbell is one of only two Navy
pilots to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for
air-to-air combat, the other being Lieutenant Edward H.
(Butch) O'Hare, whose name lives on at O'Hare International
Airport in Chicago, and
WHEREAS, Captain McCampbell is a resident of Palm Beach
County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OFT HE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of
Boynton Beach, Florida hereby officially supports and
endorses the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport
after Captain David McCampbell.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to
send a copy of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County
Airport Authority, the Aviation and Airports Advisory
the Palm Beach County Board of County
Committee and
Commissioners.
Section 3.
This Resolution
immediately upon its passage.
