Guidry, ~ Director of utilit&es \J April 24, 1990 APR 21 19JO PLANNlNG DE.PT~\ FROM: --- DATE: · SUBJECT: Permit Requirements - standby Generator at East Water j Treatment Plant We are finalizing the specifications and preparing to request bids for purchase and installation of a standby generator for the east water treatment plant. The generator is needed to supply auxiliary electric power to run the east plant at near full capacity during power outages and mandatory power reductions such . as was experienced during the past winter cold snap. It is our intention to purchase a package power system installed in its own housing, located between the existing fuel tank and generator. It' should be noted that the existing generator is sized to provide only one half plant capacity. With the plant approaching full capacity, we would be unable to provide adequate water supply during extended power outages without the purchase of the second generator. We questioned Jim Golden regarding submission to the TRB and he suggested that we check with your office first to determine if it constitutes a substantial change, or could the permit be applied for directly from the Building Department? The estimated cost for this generator is $200,000. To assist your review, we have prepared an information package containing site plan, photos showing existing site, renderings showing the site after the generator is installed, and specification sheets on the generator and housing desired. Please let us know if TRB review is required. cmd xc: Building Department (Jim Golden, Sr. City Planner 9
